    Recommendation for Auto Transportation Company?

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Can anyone recommend an auto transport company? I'm getting the run around from Montway Transport so I'm looking for another company. I need:
    • Pick up location: Annapolis, MD
    • Destination: Carlsbad, CA
    • Pick up date: Today/ASAP
    • Transport type: Fully enclosed in a hard walled trailer. Exposed or soft sided trailers are unacceptable

    Thanks

    Used them about 10 times now. They've been very good. One of the times I was able to get a pickup a week after contacting them.

    From your post on the matrix thread, it sounds like you're talking with a transport broker now. DO NOT do that. You definitely only want to use a company that has its own drivers/fleet.

    Quoted for truth. The transport brokers are just this side of crooks, and will inundate your email inbox and texts (if you're dumb enough to give them your cell). I used Montway, once, and that was more than enough.
    Use a bespoke shipper (McCollisters; Intercity Lines; Passport; Plycar) that has its own fleet. But, you'll be on their time schedule, not yours.

    I have had a car shipped with Reliable Carrier and it was a good experience. Just a heads up though, there is Reliable Carriers and there is RCI Logistics (which is Reliable’s broker side of the business). Since it sounds like you want quality, not necessarily value, stick with “regular” Reliable Carriers.

    Just a heads up though, it will not be cheap to cross the entire country. I think I recently heard a quote from Matt Farrah on The Smoking Tire that it was in the $4/mile range for closed transport at the moment, but that could have been a short distance move.

    I have used the following with all good results on enclosed shipping. RunBuggy and Fisher will most likely be faster than Intercity and Reliable. I have used enclosed transport about 7-8 times in the last 3 years and used all of these with good results. I like RunBuggy the best, as they have GPS tracking on the truck moving your vehicle.

    * Intercity Lines
    * Reliable Carriers

    After selling my C8 A7 on Cars & Bids, the buyer used a company called moveauto.

    Not sure what he paid, but I do know the driver was extremely professional and he got the car there very fast. Covered trailer from Northern California to Arlington, Virginia in 5 days.

    Thanks for all the suggestions, much appreciated. I ended up going with Prestige Auto Transport. The rep contacted me right after I solicited a quote, was very communicative by email and phone, and found a driver who would pick up the car the next day (today) with delivery by Saturday. Hard sided enclosed trailer. They are a broker, but I felt good going with them.

    Montway, on top of failing to find a dealer after 3 business days (holiday weekend sandwiched in there) was stating delivery would be 6-9 business days AFTER pick up.

    Cost with Prestige was a few hundred more. Acceptable IMO considering the above.

    I'm super excited to get the car this coming Saturday. Car will go directly over to TAG Motorsports for a slew of Mods, tint and PPF. Only thing I don't have lined up yet is Ceramic Coating. That'll be the subject of another post in the near future.

    Again, thanks to all for the suggestions.

    Sorry to hear that you're having a frustrating experience with Montway Transport. I can definitely recommend a reliable auto transport company that meets your requirements.

    I have used Plycar. They were great and it was enclosed.

    A OK AUTO TRANSPORT was pretty good. I had my Supra from Iowa to Washington in enclosed transport in 3 days and just $1400. But they only have insurance for 75k, so not enough to cover the RS6/7.

    I would avoid this company. Here are the red flags that I found:

    If you look at their address and google it you can see it is a building with a sign for “PhysicalAddress.com”. This is a service for “mailbox companies” when you want to make it look like you have a physical office somewhere and not use a PO Box. The other addresses that I found for the company are in California and Florida, but these are also just mailbox locations at pack and ship stores and a residential address.

    The company is listed as Royal Quality Carriers, Inc. on their website, but that company was administratively dissolved back in 2017. US DOT has no record of this company. I found the company, now called RQL Transporters, Inc. They are a broker and do not own or operate their own trucks.

    I would recommend looking for a carrier, not a broker. Also, this one has too many red flags with forming a business and dissolving it a year later, only to open another very similar entity, plus the constant address changing to various states using just mailbox locations at pack n ship stores, etc.

    P.S.
    I am an attorney for a large logistics company and got bored at work, but all of this is public information, you just have to know where to look.
