    Question Q4 e-tron order guide?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I read this morning that Audi has started building the Q4 e-tron at their Zwickau plant. Has anyone obtained an order guide? I'd love to get an idea of what options/packages are going to be available.

the etron gt packages/build options were not released for about 4-6 weeks after the public reveal. Probably have a few more weeks to wait for the Q4 etron

2022 order guides are just beginning to trickle into North America dealerships. I believe this car will be hitting Europe before making its way here.

As PowerStroke mentioned, it'll probably be a few more weeks before the Q4 order guides arrive.

June 1st update: Still no configurator or order guide for the US. The UK/EU configurator is up and they’re in dealerships, but since the option packages and equipment are always somewhat different from the US versions, it’s not an accurate idea of what we’ll be getting stateside.

    Wait.
    Did I see that right?
Does it really have rear DRUM brakes?
I get that discs may not be absolutely necessary if it is light enough and with Regen, but come on...drums?

It looks like indeed it is true.

"As with other MEB models, the Q4 has drum brakes on the rear axle. Kraus emphasises that this is not a disadvantage for the customer – rather the opposite. “Recuperation covers 90 per cent of the braking processes. For the remaining ten per cent, the disc brakes at the front do most of the work,” says Kraus. “In our use case, the drum brakes in the rear have advantages because corrosion and maintenance costs are lower.”"
    https://www.electrive.com/2021/04/14...rive-variants/

I'd like to see the maintenance cost analysis there...and "corrosion"??? that implies the millions of disc braked cars have corrosion "issues"?

If they are that confident in them I'd like to see a 10 year 100k mile warranty on the rear brakes.

"rusty" rear rotors from lack use also doesn't make sense to me. They already have disc brake wiping feature for years, they could activate that to keep the rust at bay.

All MEB platform vehicles have rear drum brakes. Seems like a strange cost cutting measure, for sure, but Audi says it’s to prevent corrosion and they’re supposedly super-low-maintenance.

Meh doesn't really bother me since I won't own one, just all my experiences with drum brakes have been B A D
I don't see how they could improve on an old overall bad setup. and I say again if they are that confident in longevity and low maintenance it should be no problem offering a 10 year warranty on them then.

We’ll see when the break distance tests come out but maybe the regen breaking helps enough vs ICE vehicles with rear drum breaks, hopefully. I wish the US order guide came out soon tho..

There will be nothing to really compare it to, but anyway, I am sure it will brake in the required distance to pass regulations. Whether or not rear drums work to assist in stopping the car isn't really a question.
Why not no rear brakes and rear axle re-gen only since even the 2wd version will be rear drive and any braking beyond regen would mainly be handled by the front anyway? I sort of know the answer to that (safety or it has not been worked out how to achieve that yet) but still outside the drum thinking...or a single inboard rotor on the rear axle or Electric motor? Again can "ABS" or other safety features be moved to the electric drive system. IDK. It's just that drums don't really seem like a step forward no matter how much they try to state they are low cost to maintain they should put their money where their mouth is and offer that low cost maintenance to the customer in the form of a warranty.
It is all probably a moot point as it looks like the AWD version has discs which will likely be a larger portion of sales anyway.

AWD version does have discs?! That’s good news.
    Where was that?

Yeah, I don't seen anything of the sort about the AWD version having disc brakes. The reason they're using drum brakes is because regeneration and the front brakes are expected to handle most braking situations, with the rear drum brakes only being used for stronger braking maneuvers, like during emergency situations. Since they aren't being used very much, a set of disc brakes on the rear would rust prematurely from non-usage.

The AWD ID.4 doesn't have rear disc brakes, since the addition of a front motor is what gives it AWD, keeping the rear motor & drum brake setup.

Maybe I am mistaken and none of the Q4 models with get rear discs. I thought I saw pics of one with rear discs.....

This I don't buy since the plain e-tron and e-tron GT both have discs. They are going to let their flagships look rusty, but a entry model they had the forethought to keep it neat and tidy?
Also do drums not rust? They do and sure maybe you won't see it, but then they are just harder to replace down the road.
Plus any rust is easily combated by the disc brake wiping function present in all Bosch ABS systems for many years now.
I dunno still seems like just a cheap-o move to me.

Neither of these vehicles are on the MEB platform, like all the vehicles getting rear drum brakes are. They also both don’t offer the same level of regeneration that the ID.4 and Q4 offer.

Audi said the service life of the brakes is 150,000 km, so I think you don’t have to worry very much about replacing or serving them.

fwiw, the Q4 stops from 60 shorter than the Q3 (with 4 disk brakes) does

It's a non issue from a performance standpoint

It should come with one. There are of course tons of other aftermarket options out there, even just on Amazon alone. I've been doing my research on this because of the Q5 PHEV we have on order. Even that car comes with a basic home charger.

It does come with one, but wanted to install a level two charger. Installed two 50amp sockets in my garage (world seems to be heading this way) and then got a Juice Box. Had it for two weeks and my wife hasn’t had to charge it yet… hopefully it works well!

Did this to offset emissions on my RS6…….

We aren't in a hurry to buy one, but I want to get an idea of how much this thing is going to cost.

From what I've seen, they only have four color choices, no adaptive suspension option, no seat material options, no heat pump, fewer wheel options (no 21")... probably some others, those were the ones that jumped out at me. Considering the climate in CA, maybe the heat pump is standard and just not listed. They also only get the 50. THAT one doesn't bother me, nor really surprise me. I don't think we've ever had a non-quattro Q model in the US, maybe they're the same.

FYI, the Audi.ca Q4 configurator is now up. View and weep. Again, I hope the US release isn't similarly restricted. I don't think these options will do it for me.

Not that it really matters much. Even in Europe, some people are being told that their orders will be delayed months, unless they want to delete their ordered options of phone chargers, pano roofs, tow hitches, tinted windows, and the technology pack. i'm starting to think I need to revisit the idea of getting a new car at the end of next year, and see what the options are.
