Cool CTS Intake Pictures + Sounds

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
We had a chance to install a CTS intake on slvrb7's S3, and he was nice enough to get some video footage for us. Below are pictures of the install, as well as some sound clips. We currently have these intakes in stock and ready to ship. MSRP is $379.99. Click here to order.

We will be posting more videos and performance data on this intake once we have our project car tuned. As this intake is a full 3.5" all the way to the turbo inlet, we expect some great gains with the tune. On the MK7 platform, we've seen as much as 20 wheel horsepower!

I'm about the numbers, once we get some logs and stuff I will post my honest opinion. So far this is the intake I've been waiting for, as for sound and functionality because it's solid tubing all the way to the turbo; however, heat is a factor to consider with this setup. Hopefully we can do some comparison logging soon to bring you facts.

Sorry, your picture didn't come through on my mobile email. I just checked and you DO need the breather filter (it is that hose you see on the left side of the airbox next to the vent line, with the squeeze clip).

Do you have any instructions on how to install this on an audi s3? The only directions I see are for a gti. I am very confused as to how to take the current intake out. Can't get the vacuum hose off, and can't get the intake box to come out of the car. Need help!!!

You only have to remove the hose where it connects at the back of the engine. You don't have to disconnect the weird clamp thing further toward the front. Then, disconnect the little hose that's connected to the front of the intake and then the whole thing lifts out as one piece. I just did the install last week so feel free to ask questions. Especially when you get to the bolt that holds in the CTS heat shield.

I'll go ahead and be honest. It sounds amazing. No doubt, but I Def feel it made my car feel a bit slower. Felt like the rpms took forever to rev through each gear. I wasn't happy about that. I installed the neuspeed next day and obviously that fixed that problem. But without any other mod, Based on my experience, i would not do it again.

In my experience, the intake doesn't make much difference on an un-tuned car. I didn't feel like it got slower, but the gains were definitely better after a tune (we saw about 10 wheel hosepower on the dyno). Thanks for the feedback!

i feel a little difference in my car and I'm not tuned yet. Its not a dramatic difference but i also do feel slight better throttle response. I really don't even care i got this as of now because the sound is honestly great.

There is a bung on the intake pipe itself for relocating the vacuum hose.

    Quick query...

I installed the CTS Turbo Intake on my MQB A3 2.0T earlier this evening, but it is quite the tight fit with the battery and the battery cables where they are. Has anyone experienced this problem or heard of anyone that did? You really have to push like mad to get the bolt started which screws into the battery tray. Is there a way of moving the battery back or somehow getting some more clearance. I am concerned about putting so much pressure on the battery, battery cables, and intake surround. I also assume that as my car has SAI, I don't have to worry about the bung on the intake, just the billet piece with the mini-filter. One other thing I noticed... when I took out the original filter box, there was a short plastic pipe which sticks out of the bottom of the filter box towards the front of the car that does not seem to go anywhere. Is that some sort of a water drain or something? Any insights would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    SteveT

    Hi Steve,

The S3 has a larger battery than the GTI (I assume the same may be true for the A3), making it a tight fit indeed. We usually adjust the positive battery cable a bit to allow more clearance (I would take off the ground cable before doing this for safety). Regarding the tube on the bottom of the intake, it is merely a vent tube.
