Exclamation Ready to pull trigger on TT RS, B-U-T will a child seat fit in the back?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I test drove the TT RS today, amazing! It's an animal!

The deal is worked out and now only contingent on finding a child seat that will fit in the back.

My son is 4 years old, 40" tall and weighs 33 lbs. We've got a Recaro toddler seat in the current car but the head clearance appears to be almost non-existent.

Does anyone have experience with successfully using a child seat in the rear of the TT?

    Help me overcome this hurdle.

    TIA.

I have to agree, I got to drive it when we got it in and WOW!

I wish my daughters baby seat would have fit. Sorry we didn't get a chance to chat I would have loved to heard what you thought of the car and I love meeting fellow AZ'ers. I do have an idea that I will look into tomorrow with Bart. I know Porsche makes ones for their front seats so maybe they have one that would fit in the back? I don't know, just an idea.

    Thanks Justin!

I sure hope to find a solution. By the way, what model name is your Recaro child seat? I noticed when I tried your child seat that yours had a different base than ours.

In any case, I have to think there's a seat that fits given the TT has the latch system. I've seen photos of child seats in 911s and those rear seats don't have latch!

    I do appreciate the help.

Googling, I did find this: http://www.audi-accessories.ie/new_t.../piggyback_g26 but it doesn't appear to be available in the US.

I had a TT until March this year. My 7 year old daughter and 5 year old son had a blast in the back! We used regular booster seats, with a backrest for the little one. Ok for short trips, they loved it back there. The angle of the rear seats is pretty steep so when they fell asleep it's not ideal.

But I would do it again anytime. But of course we had a family car for longer trips.

Another owner's findings: http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2811860 (Scroll down to GADGETS/INTERIOR)

The TT owner's manual lists the following child seats and boosters -
    Manufactured on/after Dec. 1, 1999: Cosco Touriva 02519, Evenflo Medallion 254.
Manufactured on/after Sep. 25, 2007: Britax Roundabout E9L02xx, Cosco Summit Deluxe High Back Booster 22-262, Cosco High Back Booster 22-209, Evenflo Tribute V 379xxxx, Evenflo Generations 352xxxx, Graco ComfortSport, Graco Toddler Safety Seat Step 2, Graco Platinum Cargo.

Child seats should be used for children from 20lbs to 40lbs. Children over 40lbs., and up to 4' 3" tall should use a booster seat to sit in the rear. The TT rear lap/shoulder belt is designed to be used safely by children 4' 3" to 4' 11" tall, without a booster seat (front seating requires a booster for children under 4' 9"). Persons taller than 4' 11" should not use the rear seat, due to headroom restriction.
2011 TT quattro P+, Misano Red, Mag. ride, Nav+, H&R sport springs and rear sway, APR K04+intercooler+downpipe/HFC.

    Great feedback, everyone!

This is very encouraging and sure sounds like I will be returning to Audi after a 20 month hiatus.

    Thank you,

    IT FITS!!!

Thanks Justin (and thanks Bart and all those at Byers Imports that made this purchase a breeze!)

As you know by now, our Recaro ProSport Combo (thankfully) fit just right!

I had about 3"-4" above the back of the seat, and even more actual head room (given the taper of the rear glass/hatch).

So, now it's down to paperwork.

Thanks again for all the input, everyone.

So nice, congrats. I have been wanting a TT RS for a while. I told my wife about this thread, she now wants me to part with my B8 and get one instead of holding out to see if the next S4 has a I5 turbo.

    Thanks, I do feel lucky.

Here's the photo of the child seat in the back of the TT RS.

There is about 3"-4" of space above the back of the seat to the glass, and even more where the child's head would be due to the taper of the rear hatch/window.

My son absolutely loves the car and asked me last night to go take a ride in it. He fits in the seat great, and gets in and out of the Recaro seat on his own without any trouble.

Congrats on the new car! I am quite envious of you, sir. Glad to hear everything worked out.

Now you need to get the Recaro reupholstered to match the interior...

Just picked up my TT-RS tonight, and to my suprise my wife who's 5'2" can sit in the backseat! Her head comes really close to the back glass, but didn't touch. We didn't drive anywhere like that, but she could fit, with the seat in the forward most position. Not quite as small as I thought it would be after I attempted to try out the back seat and came no where even close to fitting.

Yep, a front facing seat is no problem, my wife is even still comfortable sitting shotgun.

    Slow, stock, smurfy blue car.

same issue here, i was hoping for some better photos of the clearance between passenger seat and rear passenger. it's one thing for the child seat to be installed another if the child fits... (especially without having to make the front passenger sit all the way up on top of the dashboard.)

Approaching 2 years with the recaro child seat setup, no problems, no complaints from front passenger (wife) or rear passenger (6 year old son).

    Wife is 5'2"
Son is 44"-45" and about 40-45lbs.

I'd guesstimate there is still about 2-3 inches of clearance between son's legs/knees/feet with wife comfortable in front seat (prolly 75% fwd on track).

Switching to booster seat soon and expect to gain another few inches of leg clearance for rear passenger.

    Hope that helps.
