Since when do meter-maids issue no front license plate parking violation?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had heard about it in other States/cities but I didn't know that also applies here in San Francisco.

Interesting thing is the fee if you don't pay it within 21 days is $110 while the fixed-it fee is only $10. Cheaper than the ones issued by cops...

Funny thing is that I'm kind of more pissed off from having gotten one of these from a meter-maid than from a cop... I guess the city is hurting for money... ...

So that's my 4th one now no license plate. ... and counting... plus now they can hit both cars... ...

What do you mean, I got one while parked in front of my girls house at 1:30am (I was sleeping), She lives 2 miles south of the main road in an upper class suburb. It was pouring rain outside (he left it in a nice baggy under my wiper blade) AND I have to go to court for it in a month (no option to mail it in) GRRRRRRRRR. I'm still not putting that damn plate on the front and now I park in her driveway.

I got one last year in the city from a meter maid. After i got the ticket i just figured i put my plate back on since i park in the city streets all the time and don't want to get a ticket every week. I hate DPTs so much.

Parked my car at LAX while on a trip and got a no front license plate ticket. Apparently the airport is notorious for doing this. Any reports of this at SFO?

Received 3 tickets already from meter maids / 0 from cops.... $10 fixed but when you get the official reminder in the mail that $10 fix it ticket becomes - $53.

wow! It must be cause you are in the city, cause down here in Santa Cruz, I haven't pulled over once for it in the last 1.5 years (including no front plate on my Passat for part of that time). Maybe cause my car is black? I did get pulled over @ 3am in downtown SJ, but they were looking for drunk drivers and I wasn't drunk.

I wonder if that will spread to other counties...

This has been going on in SoCal for a few years now. It varies city to city near the beach but in most parts of LA you'll get tagged by parking enforcement w/o a front plate. I received said dubious honor the day before I left SoCal last year while parked out in front of a friend's place near Silver Lake. I only mention this as I was expecting it to be the same up here now since cities are doing anything they can to increase revenue thru worthless ticketing.

I didn't have the heart to drill my bumper, so I picked up one of Winston's Skid Plates [utilizes the tow hook if you've not see it]. Pics on my car here if you're interested.

Been true for years in the city - at least 4-5 years.

Whats the problem with having a front plate again?

Aha - so then why are people complaining about tickets - you knowingly evade the law for the sake of vanity - seems to me like you should man up, accept the ticket as the cost of not 'looking ugly', just like the cost of buying a nice new shirt or something....

When i had street parking I got 4 or 5 in less than a year. I solved the issue with magnets on the license plate and magnets behind the license plate delete. put plate on when parked, take plate off when i drive.
    Havent gotten any since.

While it appears to have been added to the vehicle code in 2005, this was only done as a means for the state to generate revenue. My beef is also the conditional enforcement. Additionally, it's now used as a tool to arbitrarily pull motorists over who are otherwise not doing anything.

This type of policing is nothing new or shocking. But as I get older, it becomes less about being 'ticked off cause some f-ing cop pulled me over' and more about, 'really? isn't there some crime that needs stopping somewhere?'

    "man up"... ...

I guess you didn't quite read my original post. I'm not complaining about the ticket. I know by not running a front license plate I take the risk of being pulled over and receiving a citation for that. I accept that risk. Like I said: it's my forth one. What do you think I did for the other ones? Ignored them? I'll take care of that one, like I took care of the 3 before that.

This isn't about complaining about getting a citation about my lack of front plate. It's about when did matter maids start issuing tickets for lack of front license plates. Period.

What magnets are you guys running, and how big are they?

I know i'm just waiting to get popped, so might as well get ready.

I fear i'll forget the plate, drive off and it falls off, scratching my car in the process. DOH!

I get my magnets from these guys: www.gaussboys.com.

I used D18.0mm x T3.0mm Disk magnets for the license plate holder:

For the B6S4 bumper, if you place the magnets behind the Euro license plate cover, you can use D25.0mm x T3.0mm Disk magnets.

For the B6A4 bumper, if you're going to put them behind the rebar, you can use the D25.0mm x T6.0mm Disk magnets instead. There is enough room btw the rebar and the bumper skin to accommodate that thickness.
