I don't like her stuff but she's a stud. She's not putting herself up on a throne. She is on one. It's a fact. It's not an image she's trying to maintain. She is that.

I like Oprah. She's doing her thing and making a fortune. She's got an attitude, but a lot of times people deserve it.

It does annoy me how she thinks she can go anywhere and do anything. She did this "wedding crashing" thing awhile ago where she just randomly showed up at people's weddings. I don't want a wedding, but for the sake of argument - If bitch tried to show up at MY wedding, I'd have her kicked out. It totally stole the couples thunder and made it about her and not them.. and it was their wedding day.

She goes into situations and is all "ohhh look at me. I'm Oprah" and is in the center of attention. I find it a bit annoying...

Regardless, I love her and would have her babies and cook her dinner if she'd take care of me.

Oprah is a decent person and does good for many people..... but there is no denying that she exploits people and their situations for her own personal gain and tax write offs.... Which is what I don't like about her....

The reason to strongly dislike Oprah is that she overlooks the atrocities of war in africa and just donates 40 million dollars to help 140 kids go to school. That money could have been spent to save peoples lives and not 140 people more like 100,000 people, that's why. Her fans turn their eyes to that negligent behavior and blindly applaud her without ever considering that she should be held accountable for her decisions.

You make it sound like she built the school to help 140 rich kids. She chose 140 disadvantaged girls (orphans, homeless girls) that showed the potential to someday be leaders for their communities. She believes that these kids may some day grow up to actually make a difference and wants to give them every opportunity to do so. If she donated 40 million dollars to 100,000 people it would be gone and they would need more. If it were that easy to solve the world's problems (just throw money at it) then we wouldn't have problems. By the way the school is the size of a university campus and is going to give thousands of people jobs and generate income for the community. She's trying to plant a seed for the future. I think it's great. So what if there's some ego involved. So what if she's doing it "her" way. It's her money and it's better than what a lot of other rich people do with their money.

By the way, she does have other charities that throw money at the problems (she calls them "gifts"). But this is like her big long term charity:

"My foundation will continue to focus primarily on funding education projects globally. I believe that education is freedom. It provides the tools to affect one's own destiny. My gifts are more focused and directed toward making immediate change.

Yes that is another way to look at the situatinion, and i do agree that your view is an important step in stabilizing the countries of Africa. The immediate issue is not a lack of education, it is rival groups of people brutally slaughtering entire populations of weaker people. In ten years the 5,000 educated in the school will presumeably realize the desparity of the country and leave. Ones that choose to take up the fight will need to be trained in the use of submachine guns and machette chopping, not law or business or, fuckit, anything except running.
In a country like Cambodia the school concept would be perfect and so well recieved by the citizens. Cambodia cannot educate themselves due to Polpot desecrating the populations entire educated element. Today Teachers from outside the country wont move there and teach because they cannot be PAID.
