Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Guys,

I thought I would try something new and post real time pics and comments as I install my new Stoptech Trophy Sport 380mm BBK today!

I sourced this kit from Josh and Greg at Excelerate Performance after talking with a few different vendors. It was clear from our first conversation that they were professional and I knew of their reputation for good customer service so it was an easy decision to buy through them. They offered competitive pricing as well, don't hesitate to email them for a quote: sales@ excelerateperformance.com

    On with the install!!

Step 1: Get all of the parts together and check the tools list in the included Stoptech instructions to be sure you have everything.

This is pretty damn cool! You should also capture/post videos of any gotch'as or tricky bits you encounter.

Stoptech Trophy Sport 380mm BBK Realtime Install

Jacking equipment and standby brake fluid ready to go. My Motul 660 didn't arrive in time unfortunately but I overnighted some Motul 600 on Amazon, we'll see if it arrives in time. And don't worry I would never track with the Castrol Dot 4!

Breaker Bar and 17mm wheel protector socket. Remember to loosen the lugs before jacking up the car!!! I have forgotten this many times before, not a good feeling.

Also, if you have plastic caps on your lug nuts there is a tool near your spare tire in the trunk that looks like a pair of tweezers, find it, use it!

Notches in the side panel tell you where your jacking points are. Also, the car is rigid enough to place front and rear jackstands by just jacking up the front of the car.

Witness the magic that is the Jackpoint Jackstand!

Remove brake pad wear sensor from brake pad (pulls straight out), unclip from caliper hangar, and then remove the plug by pushing up on the plastic and twisting, I used a screw driver to gently pry the plastic nub up so it would twist.

Unplug the wear sensor. Later you can either zip tie this away or shorten it and zip tie it away. The two wires just need to maintain a connection with each other to not set off the wear indicator.

I've got a cardboard box I'm using as a drip tray down below and am using an 11mm and 14mm wrench to disconnect the stock brake lines. Note: have the rubber nipples included in the stainless steel line kits ready to go to minimize stoppage from the cars brake lines.

That was definitely messier than I thought, be sure to where nitrile gloves and get the dang nipple on there as fast as you can. You're thinking this won't fit over that threaded bolt but the bolt pushes up out of the way. Still, very slippery and hard to get the nipple on with fluid coming out.

Now for the hardest part of the install if you've never broken your caliper holding bolts loose before. They are tightened to 150 ft lbs from the factory and have some kind of lock-tite on them as well! Luckily I broke mine loose when I replaced my rotors at the track recently. Some spirited braking before you do this will help to warm and loosen the lock-tite (I think). None of that today. Leverage is your friend.

Okay, that was way easier this time. Just my breaker bar and a strong 21mm socket was all I needed. You might consider going to a shop and having them loosen/break-loose these bolts and then retighten them to a much lower torque for you if you know they are factory fresh still.

I forgot to pop the brake line out of this bracket before removing the caliper, don't forget! I had to hold the heavy caliper while I did this, I won't forget on the other side.

Remove this T30 rotor retention bolt and the rotor should come off easily, hit it with a rubber mallet if not. This is a hand tighten bolt on reinstall.

You must wash the new Aerorotors with soap and water to remove a rust inhibitor on them!!!! They have plenty of warning inserts to remind you. Oh, and hit them with some brake parts cleaner after that!

Mounting bracket on. Factory torque is 150 ft lbs on these bolts I believe. I couldn't quite achieve that, 120-130 ft lbs is probably sufficient. I'll blue loc-tite these bolts at some point (my Amazon order from earlier this week didn't arrive in time).

So good news and bad news. The test fitment was extremely close so I had to do a full fitment test with rotors, wheels, and even tightening some lug nuts. The good news is that the BBK does appear to fit. The bad news is that the wheel balance weights would scrape. I'm going to see if Costco will re-set these for me on the inner edge of the wheels. Has anyone else had to do that?

On pause for a run up to Costco to drop these off. Luckily my wife just got back to the house, so I have a second vehicle now.

19's actually. So I called Costco and they have half-height wheel weights, going to try that first (I think it will work) and then do the inner edge mount if not. He said that part of it is side to side balance so best to keep them where they are if possible. I'm taking all my wheels in for this as I may rotate them or may need to move a back to the front if I get a flat.

Never a dull moment on a modding project!!

So sitting at Costco waiting for my wheels now, they showed me the low profile weights and they should clear.

I was thinking, the front dust shields are seriously blocking the air flow from the wheel well into the rotors (that's essentially the intake area for the air flow). I can't imagine a better mod to aid air flow, they are coming out!

I noticed the same clearance issues with brembo 380mm BBK's and the oem 19 inch peelers a couple of days ago, was thinking along the same lines as you getting them re-balanced if I ever wanted to run them again, interested to see the result.

Done and heading home, not a bad hiccup if they fit now. I'm also realizing this will make a great tow vehicle in a few years (don't tell my wife),

Looks really good, good job on the DIY. I recently installed same kit but with Black Calipers on a Monsoon Gray Black Optics package S4. Those are some big rotors and calipers, they don't look like they will fit until you put the wheel on lol. If you are looking for more upgrades I recommend H&R sway bars and sport springs (1" drop I think from Eibach) to finish it off with some improved handling to go with the BBK. Enjoy your new stopping power.

Calipers off on both sides now. Dust shields too!

Dust shield bolts are T30 Torx, same as the rotor retention bolts.
