Not a Good Start to the Day...S5 is Done

My wife and I were headed to work, and some dickhead was road raging with someone else and rear-ended us...HARD...no brakes. He clearly wasn't paying attention to the fact that traffic had slowed in the right lane, was focusing on the other asshole instead.

I'm in the ER with my wife right now, making sure she's okay. Had a lot of pain in her head, neck and arm.

I snapped a couple of pics...pretty sure the S5 is totaled. I hope I never see that fucking asshole again.

Hopefully all is well. Appears the crumple zone served its purpose to absorb the impact. Some people should not be permitted to operate a motor vehicle.

That sucks - hopefully you are both OK. From the damage shown above I would be surprised if the car was totaled, but you never know. None of the glass appears broken which might indicate frame damage and the rest looks like it's limited to the trunk / bumper / rear fenders.

very sorry to hear about that, talk to your adjuster to total it out. I agree with what someone else said, you should push this guy to court. Nobody should ever be speeding like that or road raging like that through rush hour traffic. The fact that you and your wife were hurt makes it even worse. You won't feel any whiplash now, you feel it tomorrow or the day after. I suggest go to a chiropractor and get an evaluation if you medically check out ok, then send the bill to the assholes insurance company. Did the cops take away that assholes license?

Edit: also mention to your adjuster it looks like the Amp /MMI/Nav unit took a hit which will tack another $3k (at least) on everything. The insurance will try to save it rather than total it.

It will probably be a few days before I know anything about the S5.

We're very fortunate that I saw that prick bearing down on us and had time to start moving to the shoulder; otherwise I would have been pushed into the vehicle in front of us and things would have been a lot worse. My car came to a stop about 50-75 yards from the point of impact.

He was cited for reckless driving. It will definitely cost him in terms of points on his license if they don't suspend it.


In terms of my MMI - when I called 9-1-1, it sounded all messed up so it probably is damaged.

As far as I know Insurance won't consider it totaled unless any of the airbags were deployed.

Like others have said, you really need to push for them to total the car...if they repair it, it will never feel the same. Plus when you're going to take a big hit on resell as it's going to be on your carfax.

This is a perfect example of why people should always remember when they are driving a car it is not a game it is life and death. Racing people and driving reckless in public is the dumbest thing you can do. Even when you are in a hurry to get somewhere don't speed and switch lanes every 5 seconds, this is life and death.
