    APR K04 V2 tune?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok....so WTF is the deal with this new tune for the K04? Is it officially out in the wild and available or is still being tested? If it's actually official would it be too much to ask for a proper dyno to compare V1 vs V2? I've heard a few rumblings about it being "better", "smoother" etc but can we please see some quantifiable data?

Perhaps APR can take a short break from making 500hp 10sec Golf's and blowers for evey S4/RS4/RS5 under the sun to step into the lowly B8 A4 forum and give us some information!

When I got my tune loaded, I called APR in advance to ask about if V2 was going to be available for my car. The next revision had only recently been revealed around that time. They said there was no way of telling if they had a version for my ECU unless I had access to a VagCom to check the ECU version (which I did now have at the time). I went in and told the shop to check and see if V2 was available. It sounded like they called APR and got no assist but when they went to find available tunes there was one called K04_V2.0 or something like that. Don't quote me because I'm positive that isn't what it was called, but it had "V2.0" in there somewhere. So they loaded that.

So it sounded to me like they have a new version but at the time they didn't have it available for every B8 ECU and thus were not advertising it as being widely available. That was 2 months ago so peerhaps they are still in the same situation. I have to agree that their involvement in this platform over the last year seems spotty. They'd probably be getting a lot more business if they hadn't more or less abandonned involvement here. But on the positive side, they did actually develop a turbo option for us which is more than I can say for most the other suppliers at this point.

If you're waiting on this info to make a decision on if you get one then I think you can probably make the decision without the info. I didn't have the V1 version of the tune loaded, but it sounded like the difference was somewhat small. Certainly nobody claimed it to be earth shattering, so whatever difference exists it's probably not going to be enough to swing you one way or another.

    APR K04 V2 tune?

Thanks for the input Dan. It sure would be nice for APR to give us an idea of what's going on with this mystery tune and how it compares to the original. Perhaps I was hoping it would bring us closer to the smooth 380TRQ and 360HP that APR is getting out of the VW's K04. It obviously wouldn't be the same but even relatively close could make me swing in the K04's direction. At least it would feel like its being optimized and not leaving something on the table.

I will be able to post data on this once I return from out of town. I had my car dyno'd on the V1 and will be doing a V2 pull to compare. Only difference is the V2 will be during a much cooler season which will affect IATs. I will also have R8 coil packs installed and a somewhat recent carbon cleaning performed. I am sure all of these factors will affect the outcome, but shouldnt be by much.

I did notice that between the V1 and V2 tune, there is a slight hesitation at around 3,000 RPMs. I never noticed this in the V1 mapping.

how many miles on the engine before you completed the carbon build up removal?

i just dont understand why we have to rely on other members to provide back to back data instead of the vendor/tuner who manufactured it. it really does not make sense to me unless the difference is negligible and they dont want to post the data.

50,000 miles before carbon cleaning was performed.

As for the update, I agree that it would be nice for APR to show some numbers, but at the same time, they didn't have to update the map at all. And since it is at no cost to us to go from V1 to V2, I am not worried about APR posting numbers on their site. Plus, the numbers on the site are so skewed to begin with I wouldn't believe anything they post for V2. This again is no dis to APR, all aftermarket companies do this. If all companies used DynoJet Dynamometers and showed WH, no one would buy the products!

Right now the claim is 313 HP and 367 torque. This is probably pretty accurate at the crank but not at the wheels.

Thanks for the info, I'm waiting on actual numbers before biting the bullet on a K04 or an aftermarket kit BT kit.

APR's graphs on their website for the K04 show horsepower (crank), and many of there other graphs show wheel horse power. It's labeled correctly.

why do they show different output for different applications? why not show both crank and wheel for each?

    APR K04 V2 tune?

^ the A4 graph is in CHP because WHP is so dismal. "260HP" wouldn't seem very impressive. Lol

Basically. With the V1 map and every bolt on possible, I only pulled 254 AWHP and 281 torque. I would be surprised to see a huge change in numbers between V1 and V2. Maybe 10-15 WHP.

15hp gain would be in the area of 6% gain over v1... not exactly stellar but would be a nice bump up over the not so impressive v1 tune.

You were not happy with your K04 results? I felt like it was substantial over stock...

Have you ever taken it to the strip? I'm curious to know what a K04 car is capable of at the traps and whether the launch is impacted from a little delay in building boost.

Arsedyno can't feel anything less than 20hp difference, ears contribute much more with less hp :) I do not think anyone should expect this to make the K04 viable over stage 2 if no one has felt significant improvement with V2...

I have the same hesitation @ 3k with my v2....I'm coming from stock, so the change is substantial.
