    (Shiro1745's) - K0R-GT Turbo Build

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It all started when I got this off-road looking thing in 2008 and I don't feel sorry about it. My plan was to keep it around 4-5 years then get a 335i. Not anymore! I felt I love with it and I love what's coming.

This is where I am now.
    Current setup: APR 2+

    Coming soon: K0R-GT + Maestro tune + BMP W/M ...

Can't wait to start the installation, I'll be at Waterfest next weekend, so hopefully I'll have it up and running the following weeks, I only have 1 day and half off a week.
I'll be busy tomorrow and Sunday trying to fix my missfires. I got a code for MAF sensor, I hope it's not bad, I'll check the wires and clean it tomorrow and see if that helps.

Doing the install myself, I'm getting 6 free revisions from RAI on my tune. They will give me a base file and we will go from there. I DO NOT have the knowledge to tune it myself at this point, but I can tell you as soon as I'll have it running I'll play with it and try to understand things.

    1. they're much cheaper $370 shipped for a new set.
    2. RAI fixed the rough/cold start and smoking issue on RS4 injectors
    3. They can flow more than S3 ones, who knows what's going to happen in the future?

About Waterfest, if I'm not able to find my miss-fire cause I won't probably go even though I booked a room.
Even if I go I won't be able to answer your questions since I don't have it installed yet.

Thanks! You probably saw my other thread, I have some missfire issues which I'm trying to get rid off, ordering a new MAF sensor today, testing for boost leaks on Fri and go from there. After missfires are gone, K0R is coming in ... he needs a fresh new home

Lookin good shiro! Get that new maf on and let's get on with this! Operator should have a good maestro kor tune by the time you get this running, maybe you can borrow his file and be that much closer? Although, he's running meth.

Unfortunately he's running S3 injector, a completely different file. I wish he had RS4 injectors, I could then start with a better file than the base one.

I found last night that my APR HPFP was leaking gas into the oil, I will ship it back to APR for a fix tomorrow.

It seems the APR HPFP wasn't leaking, they tested it and no leaks at all, which is a good but bad in the same time, I was kind of hoping that will fix my gas into oil problem.
I pulled the injectors out today and found the forth one all soaked in fuel. So my guess is that injector was leaking fuel making it past the piston ring and into the oil. I hope there's no excessive wear in that cylinder. I'll have I do a compression test after i'll have the car running. This may take a while cause I won't be able to start the car until all rs4 injectors, kor and maestro tune is installed. I hope Maestro will be able to read the ECU, I don't Feel like having the car reflashed at the dealer. Too much waste of time.

How did you come to the conclusion your HPFP was leaking? Gas smell in oil alone? I have noticed that my oil smells of gas to a degree but have chalked that up to blow by gasses that I have heard is typical for the 2.0t.

Well, car it's been running pretty bad lately, rought idle, misfires, LTFT was showing lean condition, which all worried me. Then one day I opened the oil cap and wow! I stepped back, looked at the car in a weird way and yes, I wasn't wrong, I was at the front of the car holding the oil cap in my hand, not the gas tank cap as I first thought.
So the hpfp first came to my mind, is seems I was wrong.

I was going to do carbon cleaning today but couldn't turn the engine. As I'm sure you know there's not much room there, I needed a 1/2"-drive 3/4" 12p. socket which I didn't have. I tried using a 3/8"-drive with an adapter but was too long to fit behind the radiator. So more updates on next weekend when I'll have more time for my car again. Until then I'll try to contact eurodyne and see what I need to do to get Maestro prepared.

I would have thought that same with a smell that strong. Hopefully the new RS4 injectors will regain a good seal and that leaky injector seal was the culprit. Makes sense with all the symptoms... Looking forward to seeing your final KOR beast!

Yes, I see it as a bad thing for me and a good think for APR, but if there's not extra wear to the piston rings and walls I care less. And it shouldn't be cause I didn't really drive the car after I found the leak. I needed to change the injectors in any case, so we'll see what the compression test will show.

Well, it wasn't actually the seal I meant, that would have made the gas leak out. My guess is there's deposits inside the injector which stops it from closing properly and as a result the bad injector is dripping constantly. Now I'm almost sure all the injectors are clogged inside to a certain degree cause I did a flow test with a "home-made" tool and at 20-40psi they were not misting, it was more like a jet more or less. I'll have more time to play with them next weekend, I might even record some videos to show what I'm talking about.

Here is an example I found of a leaking injector.

Finished carbon cleaning + RS4 injectors + RS4 PRV installation.

    While cleaning

Removed the old turbo and transferred hoses/lines/valve/brackets onto K0R but didn't complete the installation, I've ran into some issues.
The wastgate on the K0R is positioned a bit different, it has the arm shorter and comes closer to the turbo, which made a few screws install a bit difficult.

    OEM K03

K0R - the screw holding the N75 valve is actually touching the wastegate actuator(if that's what is called)

K0R - you can see how that's the only way to tighten that bolt, hopefully I won't have to touch the DV any time soon

I somehow managed to brake the N75 valve's plastic nipple. Because of the wastegate being in a different location compared to eom K03 I had to twist the rubber hose that connects the N75 valve to the wastegate. My "brilliant" mind and patience which was already gone decided to twist it without removing the one-time use clamp braking the nipple, at that second I though it was a metal nipple and had to twist with no problems.

And who said the four bolts on the hot side cannot be removed? they just need a magic touch

Me at 1am having hot tea and hoping an elf will show up, do some magic and have everything up and running in a minute, maybe next time.

Are you using the BMP to control boost, or just meth? If it is just meth, you should totally try my latest Maestro file; we are close enough in hardware that it should work, and it is really smooth running file. I will send you my latest and greatest that I am running today.

At this point I only run meth through BMP, but I haven't even had the chance to run it properly. I will definitely try the file you sent me. That's not my garage, I wish I had one though. That is not even an enclosed garage, it's just the open area under the house in front I the actual garage.

Maybe you should wait until I have it installed, who knows how many hundred revisions you'll have by then haha

Thanks, I really tried my best, there was still room for a bit better but it was a bit too much for my nervous system haha too many hours with my nose in that shit. And I must say the worst thing was to get the light in there. I don't understand how many say this job killed their back. I felt no pain after this job, I was always either laying on top of the engine either supporting myself with one hand.

I just finished installing the Vogtland coilovers, I'll have to adjust again, I did it before installation so I got what got for now. Front is 24.5" FTG and rear is a bit off, one side is lower than other, so i'll take care of that next weekend. Here are a few pics, i'll take better ones after i'll have the car running, hopefully K0R + Maestro will go on without problems and be able to drive it next weekend.
