    Key FOB battery life ('24)

I've had my car just under a year. Just past 9,700 miles, and I got the "Replace key FOB battery" message/annunciation on the dash already. Normal? Seems a little premature.

Yup. Changed mine twice; one in each fob. I think of you like to press the buttons alot you're wearing out the battery.

I don't think clicking buttons makes a difference. I lock/unlock my cars via the door handle and both my S3 and RS3 key fob batteries lasted about 13 months. The quickest depleting key fob batteries in my experience. Previous Audi key fob batteries have lasted 3-4 years.

Not sure I believe the more you press the button doesn't deplete the batteries faster, but to save that argument for another day, I agree that the batteries don't last as long as expected. Maybe the two-way transmission that is ever constant is doing it?

I remember a conversation about this. If you are constantly in range of the car, it drains faster than if you aren't. Not sure how much is faster, but YMMV. Battery lasted much longer when I was in a parking garage vs when I had to car right outside.

comfort key is costantly trasmitting its signal to the car (otherwise the comfort opening/closing could not work), that's why the battery life is reduced, compared to a std FOB

I am glad im not the only one then. Its pretty freaking annoying. My cheap ass (in comparison) Rav4 lasts way longer. Fancy ass car that doesn't have remote start and drains key fobs like its no ones business. Guess its the price you pay for performance?

I think this might be a good thing tho, and I could be wrong (I've been wrong before I've seen it) but the signal between the car and fob gets changed multiple times a second to avoid cloning. Which maybe why not many Audis are stolen in that way.

Cool. Just bought a pack of six Energizer 2032 batteries. Should last me.... six years? I have only been using one of my key FOB's. I'm the only one who drives the car and no, I rarely use the buttons.

Totally dependent on where you keep the keys vs the car.

On my wife’s S5, her key is in her jacket pocket or work bag, which are in the house, in the downstairs closet. Not a far distance from the garage, but 2 doors as barriers worth. My key for it is upstairs in a dresser drawer. It’s her daily. At work, it’s in her bag and several doors in a large building separate the two. I’ve done a fob battery in each fob once, 3 years ago.

On my S4, the car is in the garage, and the keys are separated by a full floor flight of stairs, and they are in a kitchen drawer (different house, and the car has only been used in the last few years one time a year smh). Have had the car 7 years now, haven’t had to do a battery yet.

We don’t use the app for either car fwiw (found it completely useless).

Didn't realize these fobs constantly communicate at that range.

At home, my fobs are in a desk drawer in a room adjacent to my garage, through a wall/door, of course, but maybe 30-35 feet away.

That should be enough tbh. But, might be a good test to try it somewhere else for a period of time, if possible

Normal? yay and nay. I also got it replaced within the first year, I think it takes a CR2032 style battery but I am not 100% sure, my service advisor has been nice everytime and he replaced them for free. A few years ago I wrote a post/topic from when I totally forgot my FOB on my jeans inside the washer and nothing happened, it was water proof.
