    B9.5 SQ5 Exhaust

I've been looking for real exhaust tips that don't break the bank. I found tips for an Q5/ SQ5 on Amazon. Has anyone bought this or know about this product? I know it deletes the valve which is probably why it's cheaper. But is it good enough quality to spend the money on?

From the looks of it. It appears to look as if it will fit fine from the design. I have no idea on quality. I installed the oem sport tips on mine. If you want to retain the valve you can do two things. One take that pipe to an exhaust shop and have them weld in the valve. A better idea to me would be just buy a set of tips and have an exhaust shop weld on a pipe after the stock valve and bolt on the tips to the pipe. It shouldn’t cost much. I went oem tips because I bought it second hand for 500.

Not exactly the question, but I also highly recommend the factory sport exhaust tips as with all things, you get what you pay for. Not only is the quality and robustness top notch, they preserve the exhaust driver side flap functionality and greatly enhance exhaust sound (borderline too loud for me TBH). There's some work in making the driver side level but you'll get that with any tip as the pipe coming out of the driver side muffler is angled somewhat. Mos def worth the price.

I bought these off AliExpress. The piping is 2” not 2.5”. Returned and found the OEM Sport Exhaust tips on eBay for 1/2 price retail.

I preferred keeping the OEM exhaust valve and went with the Audi sports exhaust tips, as even with an exhaust valve delete simulator plugged in, my 2023 was still throwing a soft code. I also didn't want to deal with any issues later when selling the car, as it wouldn't be easy to reinstall the exhaust valve if I had removed it completely.

Those are the exact ones I installed. make sure you get some clamp hangers. After the fact you can probably order some exhaust tips and then have a shop fabricate cheaper and with 2.5" piping.

My shop said he could do straight 2.5" pipe and whatever tips for like 550. I would have to do the cutouts in the bumper myself though.

MTM bumper kit will do the trick but it is pricey and comes unpainted. think ignition tube on youtube installed it on his SQ5 before he jumped into an x3m.

Keep your eye out for Audi dealers selling them at a discount in their online parts catalogs. I was able to get mine right before Christmas for $900 from Audi Bethesda. Still kinda crazy to pay that much for exhaust tips, but way more palatable than the $1,400 MSRP. Looks like they currently have them listed for $1,124. They also have black optics version if you're looking for that. I found them by just plugging the PN (80A071904) into Google and scrolling through the results to find the lowest price option.

How do these improve the sound? They look identical to what I have now, but in black.

I don't know that it makes much of an audible difference. Biggest difference in my mind is that the exhaust is directed straight out of the rear rather than towards the ground via the original turndowns, so it might seem a bit louder at certain angles. Other folks claim that the perforations inside of the tips act as mini-resonators, which I don't know enough about exhaust systems to speak to. For me, it was mostly the fact that I wasn't cool with fake exhaust tips (on a performance vehicle for that matter).

You can see the perforations on the chrome version:

The factory sport exhaust tips hugely improve sound - both volume and character - IME maybe almost as much as you get with a mild aftermarket exhaust. It's borderline too loud for me now that I'm stage 3: comparison video (lol get a load of dat cold start comparison!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-ko...ilyTheAudiNerd.

The sound change/amplification is accomplished with perforations and chambering, just like in a muffler or resonator (Audi R8 muffler cutaway shown):

Same here , Audi Bethesda had the best prices and their shipping manager was a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend, may be a couple bucks more than other methods but these OEM performance tips guarantee a perfect fitment, easy install, quality, great sound, no codes etc etc. They are worth it.

The existing hidden tips can be cut and new tips fitted and capable muffler shop can do this for far less. Also the round tips look so much better than the ovals. All done for probably less than $500.
