Sunroof Drain Limited Warranty Extention Letter from AoA

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just sharing that I received a letter today for my 21’ Sportback that Audi is extending the warranty coverage for sunroof drains up to 9 years or 90k miles.

During the time/mileage period, Audi will inspect and replace sunroof drains at no cost.

I have seen sunroof drain issues discussed here before, but nothing related to actual warranty extention offered by Audi.

Ill post a picture of the letter if I ever figure out how to post pics on the forum (keeps timing out and wont load).

It does not indicate what models or vin range is covered. But hope this letter helps if you are reaching out to your dealer.

No it's not. I received the letter for my non-sportback.

If parked out side it's a good idea to clean out the drains every couple years. My rear ones got backed up with dust etc and filled up the rear access panel area.
Probably a good idea to DIY or ask your service person to do a clean of them while in for service.

How has this not been a thing for every Audi ever?

Whether it’s a leak that ruins the head roof liner, the GPS components or the amplifier.

    I mean seriously…

We've owned a mk4 jetta (290k), MK7 gti (currently 175k) , 8V S3, 8V RS3 and the SQ5. Never had a sunroof problem. Is this more of a regional issue or if you park under trees every day? I mean ive seen people with leaks but still dont think its all that widespread or the fault of the vehicles.

Got my letter today. Neither of mine have had any issues but they're mostly garage kept or covered parking.

I guess that’s the difference. I’ve only ever been able to park outside. That being said, I am meticulous about maintaining them and clearing crap out. I know many people who have had issues. There are no less than several hundred threads about clogged/failed sunroof drains.

Got mine yesterday. Mine is mostly parked outside as the Miata gets the garage the majority of the time. Need to look into cleaning procedure, wonder if I can use the same trombone brush I use for the miata's top tray drains.

I’ve used weed eater twine to clear them out. I’ve heard of folks using compressed air but have also heard of folks blowing the seams out doing it that way.
