    Battery Charging Issue

Could use some help here please. Trying to connect a NOCO Genius 1 to my 2023 RS6 and it's telling me that the battery cannot be charged via a solid red light. I've connected to the terminals under the hood and get no other error lights from the Genius 1. Drove the car about 3 weeks ago and lights still come on so I know the battery isn't dead. It's set to charge a 12v lead acid battery per the manual and leads are attached as shown in the pic. Hoping it's just something stupid I'm doing but I can't find any other information as to what I could be doing wrong. Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried setting it to AGM battery since I'm pretty sure thats what it has.

I use the same NOCO Genius charger on my 2021 RSQ8 and your issue is that you're in the wrong mode of charging and need to change that mode over to 12-volt AGM but you might want to call your local dealership to confirm exactly which OEM Battery that they're using in your model year because it could even be a 12-volt Lithium battery in that year RS6? The reason you're getting that steady red light is because your battery isn't the 12-volt lead acid battery but either an AGM 12-volt battery or a Lithium battery and you're in the wrong charging mode

The owner's manual pretty clearly says lead acid 12v with a 48v lithium ion for the mild hybrid system. That being said I have tried all three modes now and gotten the same results.

Then it has to be the connection so why don't you just connect the charger directly to the battery and more than likely, that should solve your issue, unless you have a dead cell in your battery?

The manual and everything I've read says not to connect directly to the battery. I'm using the ports that you're supposed to.

I just read the Noco Genius 1 manual & it clearly states to connect the positive cable to the positive battery terminal & the negative can be connected to either the negative terminal or the vehicle ground. Lastly, upon looking at the charge led’s section, there’s nothing regarding a steady red light for some unknown reason & there’s no mention of not connecting directly to the vehicles battery? I connect mine directly to my RSQ8 battery terminals & also directly to my Harley’s battery terminals for the best charging results

The Audi service manual says not to connect directly to the battery and to use the ports under the hood. They claim it can harm the battery. The Noco guide I linked in my first post says a steady red light is a battery error.

It can't hurt the battery connecting the charger directly to it, but, there's a good chance that you might have a dead cell in your battery because there's not enough voltage for the charger to recognize the battery, even though there's still power in the battery> I'd take the car to a local AutoZone or Oreilley's and have the battery load tested. If your vehicles still less than 1 year old from the build date, Audi will replace the battery for free if it has a dead cell btw.

I moved the charging location to a ground on the car body and that solved my issue and it gave me a pulsing red light. Now I'm just super confused about what battery I have. Everyone on these forums and NAPA/Autozone, etc. all think we have AGM batteries, but the manual and this graphic from Audi say its a 12V lead acid. Any ideas which is correct and why?

I was under the impression that AGM batteries are a type of lead acid. They just use a gel instead of liquid acid.

That could absolutely be the confusion I'm seeing.
