Anyone with Jackal tune on S6?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone run jackal on their S6? I know they’re pretty popular with the B8/8.5 crowd. Also know of the 034 video bashing them. Just looking for someone with real experience running it on an S6.

DS1 double the price and still needs a trans tune. Not sure if it’s worth it for a weekend ride that I’m just looking to have a little fun with. Jackal is $650 for Black Friday and includes dsg tune. It’s great on the S4 3.0 curious about how it performs on the 4.0

Maybe there is a reason one is cheap and one is expensive. One is a solid proven option, and one is new to the platform.

The 4.0T EA824 is not the same as a 3.0. High IATs and heat soak are a real issue.

In other words, price is far from the first concern you should have when choosing a tune for the EA824.

I didn't even know they had a 4.0t tune. This should be interesting.

I went with the DS1 because 1) The datalogging abilities are awesome 2)It has flex fuel capability, and 3)There's a huge support community.

If those don't matter to you, then buy what you want, but that's why DS1 has a huge following.

I understand completely. I feel like DS1 is designed for someone who’s more hands on with the tune and their car. I’m not. Had IE on my S4 and was happy with it but it was tune and forget it. Access to E85 is limited so I only run 93. Wouldn’t really data log unless there seemed to be an issue. Community support is always nice. Matt from Jackal has been awesome with responses to any questions. Usually within 15-30 mins of email. Only reason I haven’t pulled the trigger on it is that I can’t seem to find someone who’s run it. Don’t really want to be the guinea pig lol.

I think it just dropped. Guinea pig it. What's the worst that can happen?

I'd say it's probably fairly conservative. The DS1 OTS tunes are developed with safety in mind and they claim more power with their dyno results.

Buying an OTS tune is a black box, even if they posted all of their calibrations, few would understand them.

Anyone with Jackal tune on S[emoji29[emoji292]]?

Seen a few people on FB said the updated version is great and a lot better than the previous one. I’m in the same boat. Think i’m going to pull the trigger and get it.

Good to hear. I think I will too. 30 day money back warranty so if anything I’m unhappy with I’ll just return it. Also from what I’ve seen Matt is happy to make adjustments to keep his customers happy. At least you’ve seen some good reviews.

Just did new plugs and the jackal stage 1 tune. Night and day difference over stock. So much power through the rev range. DSG tune is on the money. Shifts are fast and crisp. Initial impression is this tune doesn’t get enough credit. Will have to put some more miles on it in different situations for a full evaluation but for now, I am very impressed. The car is an absolute monster. Customer service has been great as well. Any email questions were answered within 10-15 mins. So far Jackal has earned a new customer.

Who did you use for the TCU tune? How does Jackal support upgrades like larger turbo inlets, bigger turbos, or are you never going to do anything else and keep it stage 1?

This is me doing zero research on Jackal tunes

Jackal includes TCU tune in the package. They offer 3 stages of tune and I think a stage 2 for the TCU. From downpipes to larger turbos and Matt is always available and can custom tune to your needs. For me, I have the factory sport exhaust and ecs x pipe it’s plenty loud for me so I don’t think I’ll be doing downpipes. At least not any time soon. Maybe turbo inlets. Not sure if they would require any adjustment to the tune. Shoot an email to [email protected] with any questions. He’ll answer usually within 15-30 mins. Great guy, great product.

Should’ve mentioned all stages are included in the initial purchase price.

I ordered also. Had the IE tune on my A6 3.0T and was very happy. But for the price, I have no problem supporting Jackal as they have done a great job on the B8/8.5 platform. Looking forward to the tune install this weekend

There is a group of specific tables for calculating the airflow volume available for the turbos, i.e. inlets. I got a crash course in basic tuning these from a well regarded tuner.

If I was purchasing it for my car I would have some specific questions about how they are working some of the tables without knowing what inlets are present. Why others tune to specific inlets and how much is being left on the table without specific tuning?

I swapped from OE S6 to OE RS7s, without changing the tune and it didn't impress, but when I changed the tune to compensate for the intake, the car perked up quite noticeably and there was a significant change in audio response too!

No vested interest, just food for thought.

    Cheers,

    KS

Awesome. I think you’ll be happy with it. I’m enjoying it. Power is strong and linear. There has been a revision to the TCU tune which I haven’t flashed yet. Some of the older high mileage DSGs were throwing a fault because they couldn’t handle the speed of the downshifts so they slowed them down a bit. My car shifts great. Smooth as butter in D and lightning quick in S. If you have any kind of exhaust the downshifts sound amazing. I have factory sport with an x pipe and love how it sounds. Let me know what you think after you flash!

Thanks for the info. If I get inlets I’ll reach out to Matt at Jackal to see if they’ll tune for them. They have a data logger now too so could always go that route. Do some pulls and let them do some fine tuning.

I hope it's not the sercond coming of EPL. That was a disaster and lots guys wanting quick plug and play sung their praises only for others to fall victim.
This is not against Jackal as I don't know them or have used their products. I just want to warn customers starting off with modding to be careful. Not all advice is sound advice.

I did also read they performed well with the B8.5 crowd. I would solicit information their for customer experience.

My 2 cents in the bucket, phucket.

If you're looking for a plug and play/ set it and forget it option check out APR. It's proven safe, and a similar price point to Jackal. I ran an APR tune for a while and was happy with it, I since upgraded to DS1.

It has that genuine smell and feel to me, but I could be wrong, and I don't want to add my opinions to fuel any e-thugging tuner war horsecrap.

Thing is, with the "money back guarantee" he's (the jackal guy) pretty safe.

Within 30 days, nothing is likely to go wrong, 90% of the purchasers don't have a reference point, the ones that do really don't have the equipment to confirm differences, just a butt dyno and maybe datalogs or dragy, and also wouldn't know anything about how the tuning was done, let alone what any of it meant. People are just going to be giddy that their car has 100+ more horsepower and leave it at that. If something breaks, a problem with the car will get blamed. Not saying that isn't the issue half the time anyways because dipshits with throw a tune or power adders on their car without making sure everything else is right. That isn't specific to this platform, it's a tale as old as OTS parts have been available for cars.
