    2.0TSI (2018) stuck turbo actuator code

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Car is limp mode. 2018 A6 2.0T.
    Code:
    15202 - Actuator Module for Turbocharger 1
    P00AF 00 [11101101] - Stuck

    I ran output test on the wastgate actuator. See video. It does move, but is it moving enough?
    Bad actuator?
    Bad wastgate flapper?

    Have you tried looking it up on the youtube? There might be a similar video available.

    After disconnecting actuator and flapper, I took this video showing the play the flapper shaft has. Is that normal or excessive?
    Could that cause the 'seize' by occasionally jamming, even so I can move it by hand?

    That's going to be a Gen3 engine with the electrically managed wastegate actuator. It had a lot of problems early on. The general turbo codes are all going to be similar situations regardless if it's a C7.5 or C8.0 or B9 or VW, so long as it has an EA888 Gen3. Likely lots out there to be found on the related codes.

    Just looking for something that is WRONG to justify replacement. Actuator bad? Flapper too much play? (Obviously not 'seized' in the common sense, can easily move it around).

    That's the turbo break out. Item 14 is the actuator. That's 06L 145 612 L. Seems you'll find 06L 145 614 B out there a lot, but that's not the same p/n.

    https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/...12L-MFG58.aspx

    As for the code,

    P00AF
    Turbocharger Boost Control "A" Module Performance

    • Deviation boost pressure actuator position controller > 16.00 %
    • Boost pressure actuator position <= 10.00 %
    Or
    • Deviation boost pressure actuator position controller < -16.00 %
    • Boost pressure actuator position <= 10.00 %

    – Check the Charge Air Pressure Actuator -V465- . (which is that item 14)

    So the code seems to be more about the position of the boost pressure actuator rather than about boost pressures.

    The checking process is nothing more than confirm 5V is measured between pins 1 and 3 on the harness plug to the V465. So much for diagnostic analysis.

    But replacing it without confirming the issue is not power would be a waste of time. Beyond that, you'd need to look at the measuring values to see if the ECM is seeing values, or not seeing values. Ie, the wires on 2, 5, and 6; are they ok. Looks like if pin 1 is the 5V supply to the electronics, pin 3 is the ground to the electronics, then pin 5 is the position signal, and pins 2 and 6 are the motor wires.

    I took the turbo out, found substantial play of the wastegate flapper shaft and 'grittiness' when rotating by hand.

    New turbo with for now old actuator going in.

    Any easy to read (VCDS/Rosstech instructions are unnecessarily complicated, at leat the threads I found/read) instruction to perfrom the calibration?

    Here is what I see after some adjustment. No idea if it makes sense:

    As you mention, the instructions seem convoluted. I don't have an IS turbo so haven't had to step through it personally. So can't clarify what is meaningful and what is noise in the adaptation process.

    Nice that Audi finally stopped using that turbo vendor starting with the Gen4 engines. Doesn't help my Gen2 or your Gen3 any, but at least one thing is better about the newer cars.

    Update: replaced the turbo, put same actuator on. Still get 'wastegate stuck' code.
    Replaced the actuator: car now drives fine.

    Also interesting: the actuator that was on the turbo appears to be from an IS38; different shape than those found on the IS20.
