What generation ZF 8 Speed do I have?

I’m looking to do a transmission service on my 2014 Audi A4 Allroad. I’ve been told there are 2 versions, and early model and late model. The early model supposedly has a metal pan and the late model has a plastic pan with the filter built in. I’m hoping someone could tell me based on my transmission code and build date from my build sticker.

    Gearbox Code: NGR
    Build Date: 11/13

I’m guessing it’s the early version considering the build date is 11/13, but maybe someone can confirm.

Note: I searched the internet and could not find any information about an Allroad with an NGR gearbox.

    Thanks!

    1st gen ZF 8-speed, used in MLB (B8, C7, D4):
    ZF 8HP55A aka Audi AL551-8Q / type 0BK, 700 Nm
    ZF 8HP90A aka Audi AL951-8Q / type 0BL, 1000 Nm

    2nd gen ZF 8-speed, used in MLBevo (B9, C8, D5, 4M):
    ZF 8HP65A aka Audi AL552-8Q / type 0D5, 700 Nm
    ZF 8HP95A aka Audi AL952-8Q / type 0D6, 1000 Nm

    Every B8 8-speed quattro uses the 0BK.

@smac770 Thank you for this detail. Is there any truth to what I'm hearing that there are two types of pans and filters for these ZF's? If so, do you know if there is anyway to tell without having to remove the cover and look under the car?

there're might be 2 things here: early b8 a4s (pre 2011) had a 6 speed transmission, not zf 8 speed. So that might explain why you were told there were early and late models. You definitely want to get an appropriate fluid and filter, 6 speed filter might or might not fit and fluid might be incompatible
Secondly, none of these 2 transmissions used plastic pans. These came about when the b9 a4 switched to dl381 s-tronic and b9 s4 switched to zf 8hp instead. You definitely have a metal pan

ZF has always had both plastic pans with integrated filters and metal pans with separate filters for the 6HP and 8HP transmissions. But you don't care about the dozens of different transmission configurations ZF has made of the 8HP. You own a B8 A4 8-speed Tiptronic (vs the "8-speed multitronic" which is FWD using a CVT), so the only transmission of concern is the ZF 8HP55A, what Audi calls the type 0BK. Anything about anything else is irrelevant. The 0BK has a metal pan and separate filter. Audi already states the proper Audi p/n for the service: 0BK398009A (gasket, filter, bolts). https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...it/0bk398009a/ But it's usually better to look around for OEM (ZF) parts instead of the extra cost of Audi's approval: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/aud...-zf-0bk398009a It appears to include new drain and fill plugs too, which is bonus.

And the 0B6 that came first in MLB (Audi AL651-6Q aka ZF 6HP28AF) is the same as the 0BK: metal pan, separate filter. Audi switched their ZFs to the plastic pan with integrated filter for MLB evo. The Audi DCT is a completely unrelated transmission design.
