Has anyone here done a DIY for input shaft bearing replacement for the 0B4 6MT (NAA in my case)?
Clutch was slipping on my new to me 2014 S4. Also was hearing light chatter in neutral with clutch disengaged. Noise subsided on clutch depression. Suspected input shaft bearing and decided to pull the diff to find out since I was planning to replace the clutch module anyway. Stock clutch, 82K miles never tuned. Dropped the diff last weekend and found the clutch was due for replacement. Input shaft bearing was scratchy as well when I listened with the stethoscope so ordered the bearing set from JHM (Input front rear and output lower). No shavings in the oil and magnet looked normal compared to others I have seen. Gears and synchros don't show any damage. Also ordered a Ringer stage 3 clutch module set that will be going in to replace the stock module.
I Have several pdf service manuals but differential shaft removal chapters have no info, just a title. Have subscriptions to Alldata and erWin as well and did not find anything there as well as spent an unreasonable amount of time scouring the web/forums. Found a few posts with photos of the shafts out and it looks like some have removed the input and output shafts together with the selector assembly still attached. I have pullers and a press and my diff is already disassembled, just want to make sure I’m going about it correctly for the input/output shaft removal. Assumed I would need to pull the gears and remove them separately but second guessing based on the photos I have seen of other jobs.
So question is - can anyone point me to a service manual excerpt/writeup/video or provide any details on the shaft removal and installation process? Thanks in advance!
