Thoughts on the all-new redesigned 2025 Audi SQ5?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What is everything thinking about the new SQ5?
I’m definitely ordering one. Just because we’ve had our SQ5 for four years and it’s time for a change. And also it’s pretty radical with the passenger screen and finally live exhaust tips. Can’t wait for the ordering guide to become live. Should be hitting dealerships early next summer from what I’m told. (photos courtesy of Auditography)

Rear is ugly but otherwise the exterior front and sides look good. The interior is the same cheap stuff on all models now. Q6 e-tron, new A5 family, a6 e-tron. I had a chance to drive a q6 and the screens are gimmicky and a bit overwhelming. The passenger screen is pointless. It does drive like an Audi though so that was nice. Also the haptic touch control pad on driver door and steering wheel is absolutely miserable. I'm happy with my b8.5

Whose idea was it to put the black plastic honeycomb diffuser thingy above the exhaust? Front is OK, the holes in the front grill are massive IMO. Any additional power mentioned?

Don’t love the rear bumper, that black portion should be lower. Seems flip flopped. Also hate the placement of the sensors in the front. I think they could have been integrated better.
It will probably grow on me and considered when my 24 S5 lease is up.

    What motor is it using?

    Same as the B9.5?

not loving all the touch controls, steering wheel looks stupid, I kinda dig the driver screens though.

edited - slight power bump, seems to be the same engine - 7 speed dual clutch is different if the magazines are to be believed.

Personally love the aggressive look. Looks a bit longer possibly? Love the headlights, grill, rear light bar. Agree with the rear black mesh a bit out of place and haptic buttons are stupid. Anyone else hate the shift knob? Would at least want one of those stubby ones from a vw (like golf r).

Steering wheel could grow on me but airbag looks too edgy

the rear end is reminding me of a GV70. glad i got a '24 since i dont think i'll ever be upgrading.

front brakes look awfully small too. i read somewhere that the NA cars will not be getting the electric assist motor so maybe we'll get the 6 pot brembos instead?

It'll be MY2026 at the earliest. Audi just posted on their USA website B9.5 platform remains in production for MY2025 essentially unchanged (whereas I thought the US was going to get the B10 for MY2025).

Sigh. As with most all new vehicles, the interior is ruined with touch controls, screens and no legit tranny shifter (which are cost saving measures) though TBF it doesn't look quite as bad as BMW or M-B. And of course, it's typical Audi anonymous styling but worse what with the black lower cladding front and rear. Hey, at least legit exhaust tips have returned as standard (I'm guessing they're not dealer add-ons as with the B9.5).

I only have a few complaints about my car and all of them are fixed in the new model:

    - cup holder location, interferes with armrest
    - charge pad location, eats into armrest storage
    - rear cargo cover, can't stow it under the floor

All are fixed in the new model.

Overall, I like the new car but I think the rear of mine looks more aggressive with the wider, flared hips.

I was worried about how Audi might screw up the next generation, and took that into account on my decision to get a '24 SQ5 since I love the body style. Now I'm REALLY glad I did.

Just like the G80 M3, everyone hated it until it hit the streets and everyone got used to the new look. Now it's the hottest car out there. This new Q5 will follow that same suit. I think the exterior styling will grow you folks as it's honestly a beautiful car, imo.

It looks like my Etron Chronos with slightly softer lines.

For those asking about the powertrains, power increases are very minor for B10/MkIII. Base engine for the US is now the S-line 2.0T EA888evo5, this time at 268-hp. SQ5 engine is a similar EA839evo 3.0T making 362-hp. Both are using DSGs (as opposed to ZF8 for the S model) and the US spec will not be getting any mild hybrid assistance, for some reason, they will be pure ICE.

Like much about it. Unsure about some. The exterior certainly carries a more Porsche SUV rounded look. Tommy has seen one in person and says it has great presence. I've been hoping for a "wider" look and he says it delivers on that. Will be ordering one for sure.

But liquid intercoolers and variable geometry turbo speaks to better throttle response and meatier powerband. Combined with the DSG my bet lops off 0.3-0.4 tenths from the 1/4 mile time.

As much as I don't like the rear angles, it looks miles better then the new X3 overall. Oh I can't wait for @Mops@Nemesis to get it and start modding so we can see the potential.

The front looks pretty good, I'm actually surprised considering the ugly ducklings Audi has been redesigning as of late.

The rear black diffuser is in the wrong spot, seems like a pointless design embellishment.

The steering wheel and screens are an abomination.

The output is disappointing, 7 years after the B9 release you come back with an extra 20 hp and some silly electric motors.

Audi is lost in the woods overall, basically everything new they release is not an improvement or objectively worse than outgoing models. I fully expect you won't be able to modify this car very easily.

I don't see myself ever buying a new Audi and I currently have two.

I like the new fender/hood line. I dislike how the hood and grill meet. I'm sure there was a compromise required to maintain rigidity when the width of the hood was reduced. I kind of like the change in the liftgate. My '21 is the second Q family I've owned and the dead space behind the liftgate has always been a frustration to me. Especially during washing and drying.

I also appreciate the redesign of the trans tunnel/ shifter area. Though I would have preferred the shifter from my '21. Added dash tech is welcome, except the door switches. Hopefully all the tech won't be plagued by first year issues.

Speaking of this, I notice Audi is moving to that specific shifter across the line. I know it's been used in the RS3 for a few years now. I've never personally used it yet, how do you put it into manual mode for paddle shifting? (I know you can use th e paddles in any mode, but traditionally, outside of manual mode the car will return to auto after a few moments of non-use).

It's the same shifter in the VWs. We had it for a few days in a rented Atlas. It's there, it'll take adapting to. But didn't seem critically flawed. The most annoying thing was the auto engaging parking brake, and getting it to release.

M gets invoked by just pulling a paddle. If you're in D, the switch to M is temporary (8 seconds). If you're in S, the switch to M is persistent. Can just press the D button to leave M, or hold right paddle 3 seconds. M will not hold at the rev limits, it will shift up and down automatically.

Went to get my state inspection done yesterday and wandered around the lot. They only had one SQ5, and the spec sheet said it was a 2025 model. It looked identical to my 2024, not anything like the pics I've seen of a redesign as shown above.

Driving a loaner '25 Q7 right now, I don't care for the haptic "buttons" everywhere. Also all that incredibly high gloss interior is near impossible to keep clean. But it does look nice!

    Because US MY25 A4, A5, and Q5 are just the same ol' B9 vehicles. B10 A5 and Q5 won't be here till MY26.

It's grown on me (at least the exterior - interior still looks terrible in its ergo).

Looking forward to a DCT and hope it's done well. Rumor is the RS6/7/8 cars will not live on past the current generation so the B10 could be Audi's peak ICE performance line.

I hope the tuners can get on it quick.
