    Life Advice Needed: A4 B9 2018 Reliability

    My car has about 25k miles on it and I picked it up in April this year. It has no more warranty on it although I was offered extended warranty for around 3000$. Repairs at shops where I live are on the expensive side and after a conversation with my dad I seems I would be better off for the next years selling the current for a new(ish) Audi with warranty, because German car stereotypes. My question is, how reliable is this car exactly? I’m already aware of the water pump, thermostat and motor mount issues, but need to know other issues, around when they happen, how bad they are and how hard it is to replace because German car. I was thinking to do the maintenance myself on it if it’s not too hard to save a lotttt of money, I have access to a full shop with a lift. Not sure if my car had the 20k miles service on it and it used to be a lease car which worries me somewhat. Lastly, can someone list out or send the picture of all the service intervals and what needs to be done for the 20k, 30k, 40k, maybe even the 60k. I am and probably all of you guys are really liking this car but if it’s going to break the bank I could potentially have to part ways.

    These cars will be pretty darn reliable if you keep up with maintenance and are a careful and detailed car owner. If you hear a new noise, feel something wrong, or need a service interval, don't skip the work! I've owned 3 Audi's now and service service service from the get-go is how you get into the 200k mile mark without any big headaches. You have a reliable Audi model at a pretty low mileage, as well as a full shop, you will be more than capable of taking care of this car and not breaking the bank. Fixing it on your own is really not too bad, you just need to make sure to do your research beforehand and do detailed careful work, as they're over-engineered cars and somewhat sensitive.

    Example! I replaced my rear springs and rear spring seats as they had broken (~80k miles on the clock now, not out of the ordinary). I DIY'd it, dropping the rear control arm bolt, and it cost me 500$ total which includes the alignment I needed after dropping that adjustment bolt to get at the springs. Well, I learned after the fact, those alignment bolts are torque-to-yield stretch bolts, and definitely should have been replaced and properly torqued. So, now my alignment has walked back out and needs redoing, and I have a bolt to replace :) Just an example of the sort of carefulness and precision you need to follow, but all that information is out there and they really aren't that hard to wrench yourself if you're handy and determined.

    In my opinion, if you really enjoy this car, value a high-quality driving experience, and appreciate Audi's in general, I say it is worth the increased effort and cost. My B9 Allroad brings me so much joy every time I get to use it, and it is a remarkably well-designed vehicle. There is a lot there in a luxury German vehicle that you just don't get from other cars. The way I see it, life is too short and cars are too awesome to drive anything boring when cars like these exist. Just my 2 cents!

    I'll add to this that having the full service manual set and PR build codes for the car are helpful in DIY maintenance.     my 2018 S Line 2.0T Stage One has been flawless. The key is do every service the Owners Manual Recommends.

    I also change my oil more than recommended, every 6500 Miles
