must you flash back to stock first before switching between different tuners?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
for example from unitronic tune directly to jackal and vice versa?

been getting different answers and wanted to know what you fine folks do... flashing is a pain but even more so if you have to go to stock every time...

not getting the same answer from both tuners (one says it doesn't matter the other says go to stock first)...

    thanks!

Flashing back to stock is best practice, but in reality the "map area" is erased before a flash anyway. So stock or tuned, it's getting erased before the new file is written.

It's just to eliminate possible issues.
If you have a voltage or communication issue, it will show up while flashing to stock, which eliminates troubleshooting for them if it would have instead caused an issue with the tuned file.

So flashing direct can be done but not best practice, check ... Thanks for the response

Have you or any others done so on a regular without issue?

Trying to test the tubes back to back and the extra steps are a pain in the ass.

    Thanks again!

In most cases it's okay to flash from one vendor to another without flashing to stock first. There are some circumstances where you'd end up half of one tune and half of another, and others where the unlock process could be affected by something odd done by the previous tuner, but 99% of the time it will be okay to flash between without going stock first.

I was thinking this as some tuners edit areas that other do not.

I did not have to flash back to stock file to go from dual pulley Stage 2 EPL to 034 Stage 2+. My original stock tune was lost when EPL shuttered its server. Didn't matter.
