    Most Reliable Audi

Still looking for my first Audi. Wanting to see what people see as the most reliable Audi. Note: yes, I realize that this depends on the maintenance history, how the previous owner drove the car, the milage, etc. I also realize that an Audi isn't a Honda/Toyota levels of abuse car. My question is more:
    • Assuming the same driving style, good maintenance history, blah blah, what's the most reliable Audi at 120k+ km?

Currently looking at B7/B8 A4s (don't have budget for 8.5) with 2.0T and 3.2 engines, 1st gen Q5s with same engines, maybe very early Q3s, and 2005 2.7T Allroads. Are there others I should look at?

For reliability I’d stick with NA cars. For the turbo cars, probably the 1.8T. The 3L supercharged vehicles have proven to be robust as well. This all just considering the engine. After that I’d avoid the older Tiptronic transmission cars. The rest of the stuff is a wash across platforms in my opinion.

    I have owned a B5, B7’s, B8, C5’s, C6.5 and a Q7 for reference.

I would flip things around by saying test drive a newer model Japanese car and whatever Audi you are looking at a decide which feels better for you.

An Audi will typically be more expensive to operate (91 octane gas is recommended for most if not all of them) and parts are generally more expensive. IMO the Audi drive experience more than covers my increased cost for driving an Audi.

I was a Honda fan prior to getting my Audis and there is no comparison - an Audi drives so much better than the Honda. I've had B5, B6, B7 and B9. My 1998 B5 had 240.000 km before it got rear ended and written off by ICBC; I would have kept it running forever except for that. My 2008 B7 was bought new and I still use it as a daily driver and is currently at 230,000 km. The 2005 B6 was at 220,000 km before I gave it to my nephew as I got a my 2017 B9 as a used car deal at 4yrs old with only 25,000 km on it.

Regular maintenance is key and I haven't had any issues with any of my cars that made me regret owning an Audi; whatever one you buy,be prepared to spend some money on immediate initial maintenance - change all the fluids right away, replace regular maintenance items like timing belts/water pump/tensioners/brakes and you will be set for multiple years.

If car cost is all your budget allows, then choose a Japanese model instead.
    Current:
    2017 B9 A4 Technik, 2.0T, 6 spd manual, S-Line, quattro with Ultra
    2008 B7 A4 Avant, 2.0T, 6MTQS, S-Line, Special Edition

    Past: - 2005 B6 A4 3.0 V6 6MTQS, 1998 B5 A4 2.8 V6 5MTQS

I'm looking at Audi for a specific reason - the Quattro system. I ski a lot so I want something that is really good at taking me up to Revvy/Kicking Horse through Rogers Pass during a blizzard for that fresh powder. The other ones Im looking at are slightly newer Subarus because their 4WD is just as good as Quattro. From a driving experience, to me the most rewarding is banging out nice shifts on a manual. Unfortunately most NA residents don't know what a stick shift even is.

I ask about reliability so that I don't have to worry about getting stranded in the ass end of nowhere if it breaks. Like I said, I get that maintenance is key.

By the way, I'm soooo jelous of your B7! An Avant and a 6mt? That's a rockstar. Let me know once you decide to sell it 😁
