    Very last review - 034 stage 1

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Being the LAST person in the universe to upgrade to @034motorsport Stage 1 (91 oct) on the 8v RS3, I discovered things no one told me:

    - 40hp/50 ft.lb increase is more noticeable than the graphs would indicate
    - More power in all situations across the power band means more JOY in all driving situations
    - Higher rev limit and additional power up there has an “OMG!” effect
    - More suitable shift maps in the canyons and track, with way less gear hunting or a frustrated slam into M.
    - Sporty and tasteful burbles and crackles that don’t get old
    - Immediately noticeable extra power at the track for better mid-corner weight balance, until heatsoak which arrives sooner.
    - Significant improvement in daily driving during mild overtakes, with quick downshifts and smoother power delivery
    - Fuel economy only takes a hit when you’re pushing
    - The car sounds deeper, throatier, growlier

    Overall:

For me, the tune elevated the engine/drivetrain to match the improvements I’ve made in braking and handling, making the car even more balanced than before.

    Well done @034motorsport @ztfautomotive !!

    Flex fuel option pleeez

Yes, even a basic stage 1 tune really makes a big difference in how the car drives. I can't wait for one to become available on the 8Ys

I've been very happy going through the 034 stages, no hiccups after 16K miles. I shopped hard for a tuner, but overall I liked 034's tuning philosophy, jives with what I've learned in previous decades (fun but safe limits). I also like they have created their own parts system, keeps the package complete.

Stage 2 has been great. I did time at stg2 91, stg2+injectors 91, and stg2 e85. Obviously e85 is the fastest but there is always the fear of motor limits. I don't know of many motor issues below e85 level. Actually don't have data of any motor issues on 034 tune. Most of social media shows people blowing on other tunes or higher stages.
May go back to just pump gas and pull the injectors since they aren't needed.
Never tried stg1, may be the sweet spot of power to motor limits.

I asked many moons ago... my question and response on the webpage is gone lol

I took a different path and I can tune to my liking. Best thing I've ever done to the car. My map switches are setup to change boost targets. I don't push it hard, I keep it conservative since it a commuter car.

To be fair it doesn't take long to swap over fuels. I do it about once a month or two. Its like a 10 minute process. Fuel up, wait for my gauge to start changing, then flash the car. I always wanted flex fuel, but this process isnt as bad since its all on the phone now.

Mirroring the response from brobst, Flex Fuel is a convenience feature and for this reason it isn't something that we're focusing on currently. Potentially in the future it is something that we'll work on and release for the 8V.5 but I have no timeline around that at this time.

Thanks for the reply! As someone who tracks their RS3, flex fuel is more than just a convenience feature for me. The logistics of flashing/re-flashing tunes and planning fuel stops around track days are a major hassle. Plus, if I want to run E85 at the track, I need the ability to quickly fill up 91 octane to drive home, since I'm already juggling other logistics like tire/brake swaps, socializing, loading/unloading/etc. and I'm usually the last person at the paddock. Flex fuel would allow me to enjoy E85 on track and drive home with 91 with no hassle or risk of screwing up.

It would certainly be nice to have flex tuning, it would alleviate E85 anxiety while on road trips. While I can flash from my phone, if I do run out of places to refuel 85, I've already been stuck in the past with poor cell, screwy phone internet, etc. Maybe there's something fundamental in the programming that needs to be redone = lots of time vs income recoup.

I think it's hardware more now than software. Tunes already adjust to parameters on the fly. The fueling table is just another parameter. You just need equipment that tells your ecu what the fuel is currently.

I agree with you. @034motorsports, we need a flex fuel option on the 8.5v please. Other tuners have them, I think its time you guys finally released yours.

I have your 034 tune on my RS3 and its such a hassle & nerve wracking when having to flush/monitor old fuel & reflash everytime I want to make the switch for track days. I think its time to focus on releasing a tune if an 8Y tune is not available yet. Keep your customers happy!
