    2016 Audi S3 getting a VR6 Engine... Emission Questions...

    Hi All,

I am sourcing everything I need to get this VR6 engine into the car and running, and just wondering how others have made emissions work? I am in IL.

The engine is the 3.6 VR6 Engine (With DQ500), yes it will be turbo'd. from a 2009 Passat Wagon.

The car its going into is a 2016 Audi S3.

I know others have done this swap... Just wondering how they addressed emissions.

    Thank you in advance!!!

It will fail, no way to get whatever ecu you put in it to set the needed readiness codes since the emissions systems are way to different. If its a dailly, just build the motor thats in it, probably about the same cost and will end up with similar power, but wayyyy easier.

Emissions are based on the vehicles year....so the 2016 emissions is what their looking for in the state OBD test...cause they assume its a 2016 motor in there. The 2016 S3 is a ULEV. Ultra Low Emmision behicle. Getting the VR6 to the same low emission level to pass 2016 emissions will be the challenge

It may be possable with the VR6.

034 have experience with the VR6...also allot of VW guys on VW forums.

Never seen a VR6 MQB A3 or S3 posted here.

Theres a guy who converted his RS3 to VR6...he may help you.

HPA motorsports support VR6 they can do custom remapping of OEM ECU

What's emissions? You dont 'have a guy?' I dont think I have done any emissions testing in the last 15 years... if you can swap an engine you can figure out the emissions..

HPA installs VR6's in Golf R...same MQB platform as S3...so if you want to keep your S3 ECU...talk to HPA...ask if they offer a flash tune for DIY folks
Cause the state enission will see the ECU info at the emissions test and it has to pass at 2016 levels. The motor(any motor you install) has to meet the emissions for the year of the car. HPA should be able to make it pass emissions.
