    C5 4.2 coolant reservoir options?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Appears the 4.2 coolant reservoir for my S6 (4B3121403B) is no longer available anywhere. I have two that have both cracked badly at the return nipple. Anyone know a source for these, or a workable repair? Also wondering if anyone has tried using the still-available RS6 version (8D0121403L-PFM) by rerouting the hoses?

I’ve seen on Facebook a couple people saying to use the RS6 and reroute the line. If you do find a used one I think it’s just a matter of time until you’re back here again.

Thanks Shelby, what is the FB group where you saw this? Any chance they posted pics/tips on the conversion?

    C5 4.2 coolant reservoir options?

I was looking for it and haven’t been able to find it. It was in the last month. Probably from the Audi C5 group.

Not sure I like the look of that kinked hose but perhaps I can rig up something a bit cleaner

I fully agree. Looks like there were a couple different options others used in that post including a TT.

Following this thread...my '02 A6 4.2 just started to leak from several small cracks on the bottom of the reservoir.

This is precisely what I did on my S6 a few months ago (RS6 reservoir w/ rerouted hose). Frustrating that parts are becoming extinct for our platform

Does anyone have the part number for a replacement tank that will fit OEM screw locations for '02 A6 Quattro 4.2? Sounds like I definitely will need to reroute hoses but want to make sure the tank fits in OEM location and will screw down snug.

I think all the 4.2’s are the same it’s the nipples coming off them that is slightly different, but I’m not 100% sure on that.

Dorman part #603-703 is like the one pictured above and it fits the same space as OEM on a 4.2L. Like previous posts said, need to extend hoses (3/4" and 3/8") 2-3 feet to the front of the car to reach the nipples facing forward. A couple connectors and hose clamps and seems to fit ok.
