Audi "fuel tank suction pump" recall covers A3s but not S3s

I have a 2015 S3 that has the "can't put fuel in the fuel tank" problem - see this thread:

    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...illing-Issues?

I have been researching the issue for months and have discovered there are not one, but two Audi/VW recalls on this issue:

    https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/201...6V647-2161.pdf
    https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/202...4V110-0472.pdf

Furthermore, last December, NHTSA commenced an "investigation" into these recalls because of numerous reports the recall repair (replacing the suction pump) didn't work:

    https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/inv/202...3007-13017.pdf

Of particular note, it appears as if Audi/VW have now extended the warranty on subject vehicles:

In October 2022, VW issued warranty extensions (AWA-22-12 & VWP-22-12) for the fuel tank suction jet pump in MY 2015-2020 Audi A3 / Volkswagen Golf and MY 2019-2020 Jetta GLI vehicles for 15 years or150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Warranty extension repair is the replacement of the fuel tank. The new fuel tank includes an improved suction jet pump.

So here's my problem - the recalls/extended warranty only cover 2015 A3s, not 2015 S3s even though (I believe) the fuel tank systems are identical on both vehicles and, in any event, the problem I'm experiencing with my 2015 S3 is exactly that described in the recall notices and NHTSA investigation. I have asked my local Audi dealership to perform the repair specified by the recall notice and I'll pay for it myself and deal with Audi directly to try to get reimbursement for it under the recall, but the techs at the dealership think the fuel tank systems are different and I will have to pay for a complete tank replacement.

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and/or can confirm that there are differences in the fuel tank systems of 8V As and S3s that would explain why the recall covers one, but not the other.

While the A3 quattro fuel tank maybe assumed to be the same as the S3 Quattro fuel tank...a firm way to get this resolved is the Audi part numbers of both.

The suction pump is in the other section of the fuel tank from the electric fuel pump...the suction pumps purpose is to move fuel from one section of the tank to another...aka feed the electric pump.

The tank not filling is often caused by over filling and flooding the tank vent system. Which closes a valve designed incase of roll over.

I had the same issue. It fixed itself when I stopped max filling the tank. Also only filled it to half or less until the vent system dried out.

    An S3 is a A3.

Update: finally instructed my local dealership to perform the repair described in the various recall notices for 2015 A3s (replacement of suction pump) to my 2015 S3 and, a month later, it appears to have solved the problem - no longer any problem with normal gas fill ups. I've now written Audi Canada demanding reimbursement for the cost of performing the recall repair, so we'll see how that goes. My out of pocket costs associated with this issue are 4 - 5 times higher than what I eventually paid to for the "recall" repair, so if there's no reasonable resolution at this point, I may have to dust off my old legal robes.

So it's confirmed our cars have this suction pump as well? Starting to have issues fueling up and thinking this might be it.

Just adding to the list of things wrong with my car lately.

The suction pump I told my dealership to use was the exact part number referenced in all the warranty/recall literature related to the 2015 A3 and it resolved the issue. It's utterly ridiculous Audi Canada (and Audi USA AFAIK) won't include the S3 in the A3 recall/warranty. I did write a demand letter to Audi Canada and, though they still refused to cover it under the recall, they gave me a "goodwill credit" on parts/services I could live with.
