Yeah, there's a number of remote ODIS services offerings out there. So you don't really need to bring the vehicle to them, but you need a means for them to remote into a laptop which is connected via the proper cable to the car. It's all unnecessarily complicated by Audi being modern corporate #%^@$.

Hey Smac770 sorry it's been awhile. Yeah I went to do the transmission and I remember when I put it in the driveshaft was really tough to install no play at all. I didn't think anything about it. I was getting a clicking noise when I ran it. So I pulled the cover and took off the 3 bolts to flywheel and I noticed I couldn't move ths torque converter. So the guy told me I may have screwed up the pump. So I yanked the transmission and found out the flywheel is actually different on the 8spd transmission. So i ordered one and traded trans just in case. So i just got it running again no noises or anything. So im waiting for the guyin Mass to get in touch. He said that VCDS can code the transmission to work. He worked at Audi for 20yrs coding and stuff. So Im like you sure and he said yes it can be done. So im gonna let him remote in and code it. I will keep ya updated once it's rolling and tuned. That turbo OMG it whistles and i have awesome oil pressure 25-28lbs at idle and like 60 or higher when you step on it. I cant wait to get it tuned. Ok i will keep ya updated.

Well, the flywheel is integrated with the clutch unit in the manual transmissions. Audi refers to the plate that bolts to the crankshaft on the engine rear as the "drive plate". This is what the torque converter or flywheel/clutch unit bolts to.

The Audi parts catalog says the drive plate for the 0B6 (ZF6), 0BK (ZF8), 0B5 (DCT), and 0AW (CVT) are all the same 06H 105 323 K for the 2.0T CAEB engine in a B8.0.

What is curious is for B8.5, they use different stuff. 06H 105 323 P for the 0BK (ZF8) and 0B5 (DCT), and 06H 105 323 R for the 0AW (CVT). 0B6 went out with the facelift.

What's more odd, is while the A4 changed for B8.5 Tiptronic from rev K to rev P, the A5 stayed with rev K, at least until MY17.

The P was originally used for the stop/start update for the 6MT, in B8.0; the normal 6MT drive plate being H. Then it seems the automatics moved from K to P (or R for the CVT) at the facelift.

The torque converter is certainly different between an 0B6 and 0BK. But the new 0BK should have come with its torque converter.

What p/n out and p/n in did you specifically swap?

VCDS can definitely not do the immobilizer adaptation that'll be necessary if you replace the TCM. He'll have to run ODIS to do it.

Hey Smac770 sorry been busy family stuff and trying to finish the car. I ended up swapping transmission. This time installing it didn't have any issues. So i found a guy in Mass who tried to access coding but was unsuccessful so i bought ODIS software I'm waiting on VAS6154 to arrive. I talked with Jonathan at JHMOTORSPORTS and he's gonna code transmission for me. He said he can go into the adaptation immobilizer settings and get the car to accept transmission. So hopefully in the next week or so i will have it running. I just wanted to let ya know i appreciate your help alot. I actually just got the plug all fixed once i knew the wires were right. Now it looks like it came that way from the factory. It ended up costing me 400 bucks for the plug and pigtail wires. But now it looks good under that. It was loose and having issues once in awhile and I realized I had one wire not quite in the plug. But now it's set waiting on hardware. Take care and thanks again

Ok so i got ODIS and found a guy from the UK to do the immobilizer adaptation settings to accept the transmission. Now he said that it shows that the software isn't compatible with the TCU. He sent me a file its a FRF file and he said a company like magicmotorsports can flash the file. He also said there's a company called Autotuner that can do it. I contacted them and they said i didn't need to use a aftermarket company to flash the file into the TCU they said ODIS-E can do it. I called HPTuners but they said they can't do it because it's a frf file. They said they can't do it because their files end in hpt they can't do it. So like now im totally lost on how I can get this file in the car or how they say I need a different TCU because if I'm going from a 6spd how am I going to change the TCU going to help if I got a different one a 6spd one isn't going to work in a 8spd transmission is it?

It's ridiculous how complicated Audi makes this all so they can keep people from being able to keep their cars working.

So how did you get from "need to run the immobilizer adaptation in ODIS" to "playing with files and trying to reflash the TCM"? If you got the correct code (MXW or NES), then the programming is already what it needs to be for a B8.0 2.0T US emissions installation.

Yeah, no, a ZF 6HP28AF programming, nor mechatronics, would not be something you can install into a ZF 8HP55A.

HPTuner is a software, it can make and read files, but it's not surprising it uses its own file storage format. What makes/uses FRF? Is that a VCP (Vag Com Pro) file format? Or ODIS? https://abrites.com/blog/flashing-va...-and-frf-files

The guy that logged into ODIS he got to the immobilizer adaptation and adapted the transmission. I remember he said as long as it hadn't been logged into another car before mine. It would work if it had it wouldnt work then Audi would need to do it. So then he went to flash the transmission and that's where the trouble started he said he couldn't get it to flash. And he said the software wasn't compatible i needed to get a updated file cause something about the file had the wrong letter at the end it shows on ODIS as 8K0927158T and it should be 8K0927158C instead. He said i would need a aftermarket tuner would need to change something like that letter and then flash it in. As I explained to the guy that I wasn't to doing any of this computer stuff. Let me see if I can copy what he said i needed to do.

    Thanks

1st, software is wrong not for your car, not compatible ,
    2nd , yes

Your original TCU hardware is 0B6927156

You installed TCU with hardware 0BK927156AL

So becausr hardware is different, ODIS E couldnt flash the file

Option 1 , get another TCU that is correct for your car that we only need to do immo

Option2, flash the software with tuning tool magicmotorsport flex (this tool can flash frf file via OBD )

Obviously, you can't install a mechatronics from an 0B6 into an 0BK. So the idea of flashing an 0BK with 0B6 software seems nuts to even suggest, to me. I could expect the 0BK to be nothing but trashed if you flash it with 0B6 software. What are they trying to accomplish by flashing, what is the specific goal of even doing such. Are they simply trying to update the software (there were some updates for the early 0BK)? Or are they just trying to hack around the immobilizer issue?

The 0BK is not incompatible with the car; Audi rigged the firmware so it simply refuses to work. I wonder if the flag is the TCM is saying that's not an ECM s/w I know I can work with. I wonder if you had the MY11 (or MY12, whichever that TCM came out of) ECM for the CAEB if it would be less complaining. But that's some expensive experimentation.

"it hadn't been logged into another car before mine", that implies you'd need a virgin mechatronics, which is several grand.

"he got to the immobilizer adaptation and adapted the transmission", so what was the operating state at that point? Was a scan clean of any codes, was it driveable, etc.

Yeah i know you can't put the 0B6 into the 0BK. I do have a CAEB coded engine and TCU so I dont know if I should try another TCU first. I found another guy in Vegas who is a specialist on Audi transmission tuning. He said he hasn't heard of anyway to change the frf file. But said it's worth a shot but it's 500 plus his time on coding or whatever he has to do...so I also have the guy from JHMOTORSPORTS who gave the file I sent him from VCDS so im gonna see what he says first.

    Thanks

I'm still with the question, why is anyone trying to flash the TCM? What is it expected to fix?

I dont know maybe because it hasn't recognized the transmission yet. And it shows errors. I did also put in a PRU transmission so im wondering it maybe that's the problem. Maybe I should which I had to do but to install the NES transmission instead??

NTA was MY13, so B8.5. PRU, later replaced by QCT, was with the higher power B8.5 CAED/CPMB years. The B8.0 0BK codes were:

    MXW - 0BK 300 037 E 001 - MY11 (MY11 through Mar '11) - software reports as 8K0 927 158 K
    NES - 0BK 300 037 K 001 - MY11 (MY11 Mar '11 through May '11) - software reports as 8K0 927 158 Q
    NES - 0BK 300 037 K 002 - MY12 (all of MY12) - software reports as 8K0 927 158 S
    NXS - 0BK 300 039 C 002 - MY12 (Nov '11 - Apr '12) - software reports as 8K0 927 158 S

So for NES, there's two different mechatronics software loads, one for MY11, one for MY12. For this project, I assume it won't really matter if it's the "color code" 001 or 002 version of NES. But it's a facet to keep in mind. I'd certainly have stuck to B8.0 versions to try this experiment with.

Smac770 perfect...yeah this is what got show Jonathan at JHMOTORSPORTS this explains alot. Cause I can see what im having this issue. If i would have went 11-12 I believe i wouldn't have had a issue.

    Thank eyab

He just wrote me and said he guarantees that he can force the box code into it so it will work. So i might just let him do it. He has been with since Sept working on this ODIS. So i think he deserves a shot. I mean he's going above and beyond. He didn't charge me for all the time were on TeamViewer working on it so hes been fantastic. So you need work call him or parts. Also i haven't broken the news to him yet but I'm going after his time with his B8.5 quarter mile time of 11.74 and 0-60 in 3.4 secs. I'm putting out 150 more hp so I should be able to beat his time but who knows ha love to get it running first.
    Thanks SMac770

    SMac770,

Well i just heard back from JHMOTORSPORTS and the guy that does their tuning said he can make transmission work. I'd rather it works then yank the transmission back out again. His guy guarantees it will work. So if JHMOTORSPORTS accomplishes this i will be praising them up and down. And I'm confident they can do it. From I've seen from Jonathan he seems very knowledgeable when it comes to using ODIS and VCDS. Yes i gotta buy another dongle. I think I'm gonna have to make a separate drawer in my chest for them...lol...so i will keep ya updated.

    Thanks eyab689

Cool, will be curious to see how it plays out. And which dongle you needed. I assume it's a VAS 5054 or VAS 5054A. Those are outdated, but still get the job done for the DIYers. The current diagnostic adapter line is VAS 6154, current on rev B.

Smac770 i got with a custom tuner and the metronics unit is a 8K0 927 158T and the TCU is looking for a 8K0927158C which as you know is the metronics for the 6spd. He said he could force it to read the 158T but if it worked it would only read 6 gears not 8. I'm wondering if because I went all the way out to the 2014 PRU transmission if that's why I'm having that issue. I'm wondering if I just went to the MXW being a 2011 and them changing to the 8spd then if the ECU would be able to read it easier then? When you switched yours did you go from a 09 to a 2011 trans? It's making me crazy because for some reason no one can get this to work. I'm getting so frustrated and almost are to the point to just go back to the 6HP28. If you could please let me know what we seem to be doing wrong. Thanks

I assume you meant "ECM" (ie, the J623, 01-engine) rather than "TCU" (ie, the J217, 02-auto trans) there. So what he's saying is the ECM (J623, 01-engine) is programmed with 6 speeds in mind, not with 8? Seems curious since the ECM is the engine, it just revs up and revs down; it doesn't control shifting. But is what it might be; I'm not a xCM designer.

"When you switched yours", back up there. I'm still on my 0B6. I would like to replace it with the 0BK, and I worked out the parts and wiring rework. But never got to actually buying one and swapping it. As I mentioned before, if I got to the point of pulling the trigger, I would certainly be looking for MY11/MY12 (ie, still B8.0), most likely a NES unit, or maybe a MXW unit. Going B8.5, that just too much change in one go for me; if it's going to work at all, the best chance is with a trans of the same time.

But it appears to make it fly, you might need to swap in a MY11 or MY12 CAEB ECM as well? The engine is unchanged, but if the ECM is too "ingrained" with whether it's got a ZF6 or ZF8, maybe easier to just use the other ECM.

    8K2 907 115 D > M > N, CAEB MY09
    8K2 907 115 AA, CAEB MY10
all of the above update to SW 8K2 907 115 AL for the white cap PCV oil consumption stage 1

    8K2 907 115 AD, CAEB MY11
the above updates to SW 8K2 907 115 AG for the white cap PVC oil consumption state 1

8K2 907 115 AG, CAEB MY12 (MY12 just had the white cap PCV from the factory)

My still original ECM in my MY09 is HW 8K2 907 115 D, but SW 8K2 907 115 AL, because it's had the oil consumption software update for the white cap PCV.
    From the VCDS scan of a MY11: Part No SW: 8K2 907 115 AG HW: 8K2 907 115 D
Same from a MY12. So seems the B8.0 CAEB HW p/n is always scanning as the original 8K2 907 115 D.

    As for the 0BK TCM
    8K0 927 158 Q, MY11 MXW and NES
    8K0 927 158 S, MY12 NES and NXS

So that's probably what I'd try and go with, an NES trans and AG ECM. Trying to use B8.5 ECM to match that B8.5 TCM is a don't even bother, imo. Too many changes in the engine for the facelift.

I have no idea if you could just flash the ECM with the AG software and be good. While the HW p/n rev is always D, the Hxx rev does increment over time.

    my MY09: Component: 2.0l R4/4V TF H14 0001
    a MY11: Component: 2.0l R4/4V TF H19 0002
    a MY12: Component: 2.0l R4/4V TF H20 0002

But you'd still need a MXW/NES/NXS to work with.
