    A4 B9 FWD to Quattro?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I have a B8.5 S5 3.0T and really happy with the car. I recently bought a FWD B9 A4 2.0T, and really miss the quattro when driving this car.

Has anyone done a quattro retrofit? There are plenty of cars out there stripping for spares - just wondering what the extent of the work would be?

    Thanks in advance

Transmission, drive shaft, rear subframe, rear axles, rear wheel bearing housings, probably some changes in springs/dampers. I guess it's viable, but is it really worth it over just swapping for a quattro build (assuming you find an early one with real quattro and not that quattro ultra junk).

thanks, one question - why would the transmission have to be swopped? I was sort of anticipating all the rest (everything behind the transmission, plus rear differential), which could probably come from a donor car for a decent price

FWD transmission is not going to have the output to the rear. You probably have a DL382-7F aka type 0CK, which has only FWD output. You're going to need a DL382-7Q aka type 0CL, which has a Torsen center diff and rearward output. I don't advise the DL382-7A aka type 0CJ, which has quattro ultra AWD clutch and rearward output, if you can get a real Torsen solution. But I guess it's still better than FWD. The rear diff is not the same for the Torsen center diff vs the quattro ultra AWD clutch. The DL382 is the second gen DCT, replacing the first gen DL501 you probably had in the B8.5 S5. But the B9 S models get the ZF 8-speed rather than the DCT.

Any progress with this? I have a front damaged Quattro A4 b9 entirely for parts and I want to do this same conversion on a FWD A4 B9, same year on both cars. I have every part available to do the conversion and obdeleven/rosstech as well. All tools you can imagine as I own a full size shop. To the programming experts, what would it take to make the ECU control the system? Is there any wiring difference?

I have to ask, would it not be less work to swap the engines (assuming the damaged vehicle doesn't run) and then repair whatever body damage exists using the FWD car?

Donor vehicle has a salvage title Vs clean on the FWD

Honestly not worth it all especially when there is a vehicle out there already with a quattro system already equipped. It would be different if your doing like a GTI and converting it to AWD, fun project and unique.
