    B9 General experience/reliability

So after an almost 18 year hiatus from the world of the 4 Rings, I'm back in an Audi. My experience previous to my new to me S5 SB was great. My father in law had a B8.5 S4 that I got to drive here and there (which pushed me back into Audi ownership).

I've been going through threads and seeing videos of people just absolutely flogging the B9s and it seems like they are pretty stout. Is the general consensus that these are pretty hearty engines/transmissions for the most part? I know this topic has been beaten to death, but some of my recent experiences with performance cars have given me a bit of PSTD...most notably the Nissan GTR transmissions.

Just curious to hear some experiences aside from the rocker and PCV issues that are pretty well talked to death about. The only "issue" that my car has experienced was the dealer replacing the water pump and coolant lines before I took ownership.

You've pretty much touched on all the primary "issues" with these cars, rocker arms (low volume but still out there), PCV failure (pretty common), water pump (pretty common). The suspension can be a bit of a pain and costly as the car ages (upper control arm replacements are somewhat common), but that's par for the course for german cars in general. Aside from the creeks and squeaks that can develop over time, the b9 is a really solid platform and has really well thought out engines and components.

I looked into the build date on my S5 before buying, 11/10/2018, so I from what I've read I'm at least into the first revision of the rocker arms. So I think for the most part I'm in the clear with that issue...but I will verify at some point with a scope.

I have an 18 S5 Prestige Coupe. Have only had regular maintenance which was all done at the dealer outside of rear brakes/rotors which I did myself. It's not had a single issue. I don't baby it at all but also don't beat it. Have owned quite a few cars over the years and this one is easily my favorite.

I have a 2018 S5 convertible and have had zero issues. I do all the regular service myself but other than spark plugs at 40,000 miles I've done nothing other than oil and filter changes. Currently has just a tad over 45,000 miles on it.

    DRC struts
    PCV
    water pump
    theromostat housing leaks
    upper control arm bushing tear
oil fiter housing crack from over torque of oil cap or enbrittlement
the problem is some of the above if left unchecked can cause bigger issues if left to fester so check your coolant levels, look for signs of PCV failure etc.
