Timing chain settlement came in the mail today....

Got a letter in the US mail for this today with a notice ID and confirmation code. I just submitted a claim and uploaded all my documentation. Not expecting much at this point and I did the job 3 years ago but hey maybe we get some back. Says it is for MY 2012-2015. This is consistent with the timing chain having been updated in 2016, which is what I generally had assumed. Anyway, worth plugging in your VIN and taking a shot.

    This 2014 Q5 2.0T I have is a class action magnet.......

Posted a thread earlier on the same. I had the job done at an independent (labor) supplying the parts bought from FCP...getting all the receipts together and will be mailing it since I've been doing oil changes myself at OCI of 5k.

Isn’t the settlement only for people with less than 100k miles on their cars? I replaced the chain around 115k.

I don’t see anything about a 100k mile limitation in the settlement

Seems to imply that you need to have had a failure and not a proactive replacement to qualify.

Didn't Audi redesign the timing chain and tensioner in 2015 to address the faulty chain/tensioner design? Those chains in the 12-15 model years lead some owners to have catastrophic engine failure who didn't replace to updated designs proactively. I agree with your interpretation and by reading the settlement that you seemingly would need to have a failure but I'm going to submit anyway. Let the settlement arbitrator tell me my claim is not covered because of my concern to not have a bigger headache of a blown motor imo.

I will be honest that I didn't read the legal stuff that close. Would be cool to get some money back but I spent that like 3+years ago so I really don't care that much but worth the 3 minutes it took me to submit it.

The redesign was on the timing chain, you can see it visually. The tensioner redesign for the one that can self-destruct instantaneously was for earlier models like ~2011 time frame-ish, not my 2014. My chain was super stretched though when I replaced it, I consider this a failure since letting it go means new valves and other head work that makes the cost of the failure go way up vs just replacing the chain(s). How the legal system sees it, who knows......

Bummer... my allroad doesn't qualify. I guess class action money isn't available for a timing chain job done at 196,000 miles.
