Air suspension fault; Replacing level sensor help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I’m getting a air suspension fault from time to time and when it happens, I get the really harsh ride that everyone refers to. The code is:

    455692 - Sensor for Ride-Height
    C1048 07 - Mechanical Failure
    Intermittent

From the digging that I have done on the Internet. It looks like this is a faulty front left (driver’s side) sensor. I’ve ordered a new Arnott replacement sensor from FCP.

Is there anything I should know before replacing this? If I disconnect the battery before the replacement, do I still need to recalibrate? After I recalibrate if I need to, do I then have to follow that up with additional recalibration for either the headlights or the camera system? Or is recalibration limited to simply string the new ride height?

Finally, it looks like the front sensors are pretty straightforward to replace. Thank God it wasn’t one of the rears. Anything tricky about the job?

    Thanks for any input!

Not even really necessary to recalibrate unless your suspension height is not looking normal after. But calibration is easy if u follow the youtube video on it.

Easy... but do not hit the button "RESET ALL ADAPTATIONS"!!!! You effectively brick your air suspension module and you'll have to get Audi to reset it!

Several have had this happen recently, so be aware and be careful!!

Hi all -- been a while since I've been around here. I had the air suspension system fault pop up this morning.

    455691 (not 692 like above) and c1048 07 - mechanical failure.

So I'm assuming easy peasy replacement of the sensor, but I physically inspected all 4 and there is not anything obviously wrong with any of them. Any ideas from the group on anything specific to look for? Otherwise, I'll just replace both of the fronts and see if that fixes it and if not, move on to the rears.

I wish the code identified which one was the culprit (maybe that is in the 455691 vs 455692, but google wasn't much help sorting that out and from other posts I've seen both codes).

Thanks in advance to any suggestions

Did you do anything on a lift or ramps??

I worked on the suspension and as soon as I let the car down these faults popped up. Reset them and all was good. More work... more codes.

Finally put together that the car was loading the suspension and e-brake was holding it higher than it expected when I lowered it to ride height!.

Undo the e-brake first and never had it happen again. Sometimes it's an order process!!

    Cheers!!

Good question and appreciate the response but nope - haven't done anything recently. I ordered the replacement pair for the front but as a hail mary before swapping them I might lift the car up and add a spray of white lithium in each of the ball joints. Long shot, but maybe one of them momentarily stuck and the car freaked out.
