Ignition coil ground terminal broken during spark plug change.

I’ve seen this happening all over the internet now that it’s happened to me, but I would appreciate any advice on fixing this. Basically, when I was unscrewing the ignition coil bolt, the stud came with it and tore the ground strap right off the wire. How do I fix this as best as possible?

I assume I need a new waterproof terminal and a heat gun. I’d strip the old waterproof cover off and then use the heat gun to squeeze the terminal onto the ground wire. Is this the best way to do it? Can I avoid soldering?

Stripping the wire and crimping on a new O ring is the best option for a quick fix. After breaking 2, I ended up installing the EQT grounding kit. They were made for the MQB platform like the A3 but work great on the MLB platform (A5).

Thanks for the advice. It was a pain to remove the glued heat shrink, but I felt I had to preserve as much of the wire as I could. There doesn’t seem to be much extra. A 14-16 gauge terminal would be the correct size right?

Yep, a 16 gauge copper terminal is what I ended up using for my repairs.
