I'm watching it now. Wonder if the warranty crap was because it was TD1? Idk I'm only a few min in.

Well, it looks like someone drove their S5 and ignored the coolant overtemp warnings.

Curious to know the story as there has to be something. I'm not seeing anything in that video that should negate the warranty being honored unless it was tuned or had some aftermarket parts on it. Couldn't have been driven long after the gasket failed or there would be a lot more bearing damage IMHO. Interesting that both gaskets gave in the middle cylinders. Do these cars have head bolt stretch issues and at what boost levels?

Most likely they put a sketchy tune on it that cracked the boost too high causing the head gasket to fail.

Considering they were trying to make a warranty claim, I'm sure they'd say "It just stopped working"

    S5 Ea839 engine teardown

So “intake system modification” counts as “powertrain tuning” and can get you flagged TD1? Wtf?

Certain intakes can make it easier to ingest water. I doubt a dealer would flag you for it. They just want to get paid by Audi for the warranty work.

Yeah I get that, and if the aftermarket intake causes an issue I can understand not covering it. But that TSB puts modifying the intake into the same “powertrain tuning” category as ECU tuning which is the alarming part. Seems like they are suggesting TD1 for intake modification.
