US Recall for 2013-2018 Audi - inc my 2014 RS5

they're calling it a software update for the ECM and/or TCM, "Emissions Recall 37P1". Anyone know anything more about this?

(and let's see if they give me a hard time for having a X pipe...)

I haven't heard anything myself. I've got the JHM Stage 2+ ECU & TCU tune so I doubt I'd be doing it unless there is something in the base software JHM says we need and then I could see reflashing their ECU or TCU tune.

Well, just put my VIN into Audi's website https://web.audiusa.com/recall/ and this did come up:

    ECM TCM Software REPAIR NEEDED
    START DATE AUDI ACTION CODE
    Apr 09, 2024 37P1
    DESCRIPTION
Due to a software error, affected vehicles may experience elevated
tailpipe emissions when driven in Sport Mode. Additionally, under
certain conditions, affected vehicles may also store non-erasable, OnBoard Diagnostic fault code(s) that cannot be cleared following
specific repairs. If this happens, the vehicle may not pass a state
    emissions inspection.

US Recall for 2013-2018 Audi - inc my 2014 RS5

I just received the letter in the mail yesterday.

You all planning to get it done? I’m hesitant. I worry the software update negatively affects performance.

I'm not planning on it since I have JHM software, unless JHM says otherwise...like have the dealer do the new flash then flash back to JHM as maybe the dealer can change other parameters?? I check for soft codes all the time and there are a few you may get but usually the internet has the answer on how to clear them even though some dealers can't figure it out.

I'm going to get it because I'm stock, and because Audi said the code error could leave the car with permanent error codes that might prevent me from passing a state smog test, and then I'm screwed...

I think the recall has to remain available for something like 15yrs in the U.S. you can always wait and if it ever fails then go get the software completed. It does sound like they may tweak the software to run a little differently which could affect performance. If it runs the engine leaner to pass emissions better it could harm the engine long term, but Audi won't care if you're engine fails in a few years as it is out of warranty. Sounds like they car covering there asses because of the VAG emissions scandal.

Yeah, that's the kind of recall I wouldn't be getting in line for voluntarily. If you did end up getting some MIL setting P-code you can't address, then go take it in for the "recall". Unless apparently if you're in Cali. Seems Cali might track emissions recalls on a VIN and not let you register if there's an open one.

Looks like they've been doing a lot of closer inspection of VAG vehicles. One for the Mk3 A3 from a year ago: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...30849-0001.pdf

Couldn't find the PDF doc on NHTSA yet. Curious what the scope of this recall is, to include the R8 V10 and the RS5?

That's really interesting - keeping the recall code available for 15 years would be an easy choice for me to pass on doing it. If anyone knows for sure please post? I'll ask my Audi dealer and see if they'll admit to a time frame.

There's a Fuel Tank Rollover valve active for my RS6 that came out almost 10yrs ago that I haven't had done so it's still active. If your's (RS6) rollover valve connection is not cracked, Audi wants to cut into the body under the rear seat and goop it up with Epoxy to strengthen it. If it is cracked and leaking (fuel or fuel odor), they will actually pull the whole rear suspension and remove the tank and give you a new improved tank. Mine isn't leaking but hoping that it will so I can get a new tank instead of Audi cutting a big 6" round hole in the sheet metal under my rear passenger seat.

Did the software update; and since then nothing but check engine lights (2013 rs5). They even changed both 02 sensors ; emptied the tank and refilled with new gas and still check engine light. 😡

Did Audi/dealer give you a 12k mi./12mth warranty on the software flash?

Lots of strong responses in this R8 forum - all votes are against doing the software update.

Audi came up with a creative idea to make the cars less good to make us buy another of their marque models. Their Markov chain model tells them we are likely to replace with one of their newer, in my very personal view, less fun cars. I guess not enough people are buying them considering how much they have increased used part prices and this is a good mark or positive indication to keep the old ones.
