    8Y S3 - Flat Bottom Steering Wheel

Is it possible to get a flat bottom steering wheel while retaining the active lane assist for an 8Y or do you just have to forgo that function and have the error code coded out?

From what I’ve researched it seems you have to code it out and it’s not possible to keep the feature while getting a flat bottom wheel? Or are there certain vendors that have fitted them and retain the function?

    Any insight is appreciated, thanks

I have Active Lane Assist in the MMI and the flat bottom I think was added later by the dealer when I bought it from them. It was a CPO that was being driven by one of the managers there.
I need to drive with lane assist again, I am 99% sure it vibrates when you come out of the lane, but I feel like you might be right on the active lane assist where it won't correct but only vibrate. For example on my R, you could hit a corner and it would turn the wheel for you

With the OEM wheel, the active lane sensors are somewhere in the outside wheel of the steering wheel, but when you go aftermarket they provide a new chip that simulates the sensors.

I have not installed mine (I’m waiting for a couple of parts to install all at once)

You can see on the bottom left of the picture a cable with a little square, that’s the module for the active lane. The OEM goes to a module and a cable out to the outer wheel, but aftermarket, is all in one.

Were you able to install it yet by chance? Did you have any error codes pop up?

Eagerly awaiting the news of the install. I want to do the same to my '23 RS3. Thanks!

I forgot to update this thread until I was tinkering with the ACC

Pretty much this, with Active Lane vibrate with correction like my Golf R
    https://europrice.us/steering-wheel-...at-bottom-2253

That said, I noticed that the RS3 picture, the airbag is a trapezoidal, so you need a new airbag ($$$) as well. So I am not sure if OP has a RS3 or other

Yep, just finished, no lane assist + sos deactivated

If you want to go custom steering wheel route, take the OEM black box, wrap it in a shrinking heat cover and place it at the bottom. You will need to carve a little whole and also put a ground on the wheel.

The result is no codes but you will lose the Active Lane Assist

You can retain all of your assistance systems and do not need to swap over the hands on detection module or trick anything out:

You can fit steering wheels that reuse your trapezoidal airbag as well so you can save a bit not having to swap to a round airbag as well, but both style flat-bottom wheels are available.

If you have any other questions do let me know here or via email: contact@europrice.us

    Cheers,
