    Installation of H&R Lowering Springs

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

I live in Massachusetts. Own a 23 S3 8y. I recently bought H&R lowering springs and was wondering if others had them installed. And what was their average cost of installation. I just got 1 quote which a lil over 2k and the guy said the front springs are labor intensive, but I don’t know if that’s true or bull. Any advise.

I had full coilovers, swaybars, end links and dogbone, and alignment installed for 1400 ish.

    Take that as you will.

I just feel they are over pricing me with labor and saying the fronts are labor intensive. Ugh!

I’d ask around for suspension dedicated shops in your area, that’s what I did.

A/S/RS3 springs are a joke to put in, yes, $2k to install springs is stupid, if you where local i could do them for you in 2 hours, Indy shops that do euro stuff is what you want, should be around $600.
Stage 1 more than you RS3

Yes I’ve been told the front just has sensors and stuff to disconnect than the back and isn’t that difficult as the shop is saying. So I am shopping around. Thanks

Call Speedlife in Haverhill or call Joe Ryan in Woburn 617-803-0122 (thats his number for his shop)

but I'll also save you some time and let you know that lower springs suck and either go a full coilover setup or dont swap. All lowering springs do is fuck up your suspension and ride bouncy. There's a reason they are cheap.

Everyone was saying lowering springs were better cause they work with the Audis suspension DCC. Ugh! Make me not even want to lower my car at all. Just slap on some rims and tires. And wait til next year cause this year I bought new rims and tires since mines came with those ugly run flat summer tires.

I'm speaking from experience on the lowering springs on a car (Golf R) with adaptive suspension. It was not good. And yes it was the H&R springs, all done correctly and at the time were given good reviews by others on the forums.

The problem with lowering springs is that its a decent amount of labor to do and to undo. Either way you go you are paying twice if you dont like them.

Around our area there's a LOT of stuff in the roads that will fuck with even a lightly lowered car, I have given up on the concept.

Thank you. I have decided not to use and return them. I am not trying to fuck my practically new car like that. I’ll stick with doing the rims and tires. And maybe next year coilovers.Appreciate it

If you want to keep DDC, there are options for coilovers but they ain’t gonna be cheap.

I have mine non DDC, just standard coilovers with DDC cancelled (you just plug something in) and is super comfortable. Even went ahead and stiffen the suspension a bit. But that’s how I like.
Quick note, I can feel every crack on the road.

My 2015 S3. Originally had 034 springs. DIY replaced them with APR springs. Replaced them with H&R Sport. Dont get the super sports!

My 2018 I DIY installed the APR spring on the OE MAG ride shock. The car drives great!

Shocks and spring are all about personal tastes! Just like wheels and tires! Don't listen to the haters and nay sayers! Many of us run after market springs and enjoy them!

Yes someone said I have to plug something in to cancel the DDC. Our roads are bad here so thinking it will not be good to just do springs. I will have to keep looking into it and see what I decide. Thanks for the info.

Nice. Beautiful car. Makes me miss my 2017. The 8v is the best body version. I love my new car too just want to slowly do and add things. And I don’t want to cause any issues to it and then Audi be like that isn’t cover or something. Rather invest money than to use it to repair.

Our roads are fine lol. I have APR Springs, Bilstein B8 and The Asian Garage Magride delete. The car looks and rides great. I live in Lowell and get around with no issues. I did run the APR springs with magride and had no issues. If and when you decide to do WHEELS get some 18s. The ride is much better than on 19s

Just installed my Neuspeed springs last night on my own in the garage. Take your time and follow any of the instructions online and it's not that difficult of a job. Fronts took me about 2.5 hours taking my time. Could have cut it in half if I had done it before but I took my time to be careful and not break something. Rears took about 1 hour total. Way easier than many make it seem as long as you have the right tools (Spreader tool worked great).

Thank you for the information. Everyone told me it’s like 3-5 hours. And that places was making me thing it was intense work/labor he kept saying. Appreciate it.

    2k is CRAZYYYY.

It should be about 600 or so. 400 is inexpensive for that job and over 600 is expensive in my opinion. If you have never done suspension work I wouldn't really recommend doing it yourself. I did my own APR springs (w mag ride) and I REGRETTED it immensely during the process. I had gotten quotes of around 400-500 by European shops and decided to do it myself. Again, once I got started I wish I had spent the money. Its not so bad but its a lot easier watching it on youtube and listening to to how easy it is on forums than actually doing it.

The ride might be a bit bouncy especially at first but not moreso than comparable coilovers the s3 with lowering springs is perfect height. My front lip clears those cement parking spot curb things PERFECTLY so I don't have to worry about damaging my bumper or the stock front lip, which will inevitably happen. It might be a bit bouncy though but not more than coilovers would be unless you bought shocks with adjustable dampening and adjusted it.

ALSO, do not get your alignment and springs done on the same day, give it a few weeks at least to settle in. if you dont believe me, Big box tire shops usually do free testing and can provide you with a printout of your tire alignment specs. If you get an alignment now it is a waste of time and money. Call around and ask for quotes for the springs install, maybe try to find a VW/VAG specialty shop.

2k for that sounds like more than a dealer would charge. $150-200/hr is normal pricing for a small shop to work on an Audi. $400 for the job is a good backyard mechanic price

Thank you for the information. Educational to learn people’s experiences. Yes I know that is an overpriced amount for an install. I decided it be best not to do them. I live in the city and it can be damaging especially I do not ride slow. I will wait on lowering my car at the moment and do more research and decide in the future. Once again. Thank you again for taking the time to post.
