I'm in the market for some aftermarket paddles for my 8Y. I am looking for a complete replacement. Not the stick on type. I've narrowed it down to two:

CarbonFabrik now makes a set that is actually illuminated. Interesting concept. "OEM MAX" is 413,91E, which is basically $448.66 shipped. A bit steep, but unique. One style or the other.

    https://www.carbonfabrik.com/en/prod...-shift-paddles

JQWorks Madtrace? Clubsport Magnetic Paddle Shifters. $368.90 shipped. Cheaper, no illumination, the come with a choice of two different styles, and they do have the "click" of a magnetic paddle. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

I?m a little biased because I?m a dealer, but I 100% recommend the JQ Werks paddle shifters. Amazing quality and the feedback from the click is great.

Are the paddles that come on the 8Y RS3 aluminum or plastic?

They are Nickel plated. Pretty nice for stock paddles, but probably a little small for some peoples liking.

I guess they are metal, but honestly, they feel plastic to me. They're way to small for me. My hands are not large, so I have to stretch to use them. I'd prefer the larger, F1 style paddles that I can actuate from the upper or lower quadrants of the steering wheel.

these require dissasembly of the steering wheel, and deactivation of the airbag while you work on it correct?

any shop labor costs for something like this?

Yes, any replacement paddles require the airbag to come out.

Yeah depending on how accurate you are with releasing the airbag, it can be done in less than an hour. All you do is disconnect the battery and reconnect it when done.

Does it screw up any of the car's settings?

No it doesn’t screw up anything. When you start the car your dash will be lit up like a Christmas tree, but as soon as you drive like 10’ they automatically go away and you won’t have any lights, codes, or issues.

These style paddles look like the ones that come on the VW version. How did you get them on the Audi version?

They sell these for both VWs and Audis and they both come with 2 pairs of paddles: 1 short pair and 1 longer pair.

I’m not sure what is so confusing. The VW and Audi paddle shifters are essentially the same thing. They both come with the same detachable carbon fiber paddles.

I'm asking about the longer paddles in this picture not the short one.

The longer paddles that comes with the Audi set is not this one. These look like the ones that come with the VW set.

I see what you mean now. They might have updated it or maybe I got the wrong set, but that’s what I got when I ordered last year. I’ll also be releasing my own designs soon.

Do you have any drawings of what you want your designs to be? I'm actually not really liking the two Audi ones that JQ includes at the moment.

Going for a very similar look as the Porsche paddles for the first set.

Are you just making replacement blades then, that can be ordered by someone who already has a set of JQ paddles?

I wasn’t a fan of the long ones that came from JQ. Running the short version currently. I’ll be interested to see yours.
