    RS6 Performance questions

    Hi all,

With the numerous tweaks to the 2024 Performance models I'm looking to move to an RS6 as my DD from a Model S Plaid. I have questions which are higher to get answers on than you'd think so was hoping owners and experts here can chime in.

    1. The air suspension is essential as I live in the hills and our driveway is steep. How high does it raise? and does it raise automatically via GPS like my Plaid and the newer GT3?

    2. What dealer do you recommend. I'm in CA if that helps. I see some 2024s with up to $6k off. Is that realistic.

    3. I'm considering a custom order as I want cognac and the Alcantara headliner. The former is a must, the latter is a proffered. Is the port delays etc making this a nightmare or is is overblown?

    4. How's the gearbox? Any lag or is the power pretty immediate for an ICE car?

    5. What's next for the RS6. Will CC brakes be available again for MY25? When will the C9 drop and would you want to deal with even more weight and complexity.

    6. Lastly, warranty. I was thinking OEM for the max 8 yrs 120. What's a guide on price for negotiating that from Audi?

Thank you and sorry for the long list! BTW if anyone wants to p/x their 4.0 GT3 6sp for the 3.6 Metzger + money let me know as getting a new one for msrp is proving painful.

My car hasn't arrived yet, so Im not the best person to respond to you but I'll give it a go. Tempus _ X here has a review series on his Ascari Blue RS6P and it answers some of your question, I would definitely check those out.

-Cognac interior a least here in Canada along with the Alcantara headliner are always available options.
-the port delays and production delays are a real thing, but I have found that dealers are not very well informed
-no one really knows what's next, but IMO, the RS6 as we know it...its dead after current run. Next car will be electric and I think the GT model is a way of saying goodbye to the C8 ICE powered car.
-CC brakes should be back for year 2025, but who knows.
-In my experience with Porsche dealers, you can always knock off at least 10% off extended warranty, I have had better luck depending on my relationship with the dealer.

I'll have a bash too, but I'm definitely not the authority on all the questions so I'll share some context with my answers:

    1. We run DRC on our RS6 P but have previously had air on the '21 RS6. Pretty sure it didn't raise by more than an inch but check Matt Watson's carwow review of the RS6 P from last year as he shows the full range in his video
    2. Canada-based, sorry! Check the Waiting Room sticky, there's some very experienced folks in there who will have previously commented on dealership interactions, the key is finding dealers with allocations available who will sell at MSRP
    3. We didn't order AE but i'd suggest looking at the Waiting Room sticky again, key here is when the order window for AE is open, a couple of the folks have commented on that in the past in that thread, if you can find a spec combination that works for you without going AE that always helps a bit in getting the order through with less delays
    4. An improvement over the '21, more aggressive, slightly faster shifts, but still has a heavy feel, don't expect the sharpness of a dual-clutch but it's much more of an "event" now to change gear than on the '21 IMO, slight turbo lag but that gets eliminated if you run in S mode
    5. This is a "who knows", we look to be S out of luck in NA for CCBs on this model sadly, last i heard is they may make a comeback in 2025 but i'm not sure how long this current run of RS6 Ps will be in production, what we do know is the RS6 GT is the swansong model for this generation so don't expect any more variations before the facelift (FYI this is my opinion rather than based on facts), I personally LOVE this gen and whatever they do with next model (hybrid, EV), I think the C8 will age well given it's looks and performance
    6. We thought long and hard about this and didn't do it in the end, seems wise though if you plan to keep the car a long time or put a lot of miles on it, i last had an extended warranty on our TTRS and didn't get much movement from the dealer on price from memory

    Hope that helps

See my reply in red, below. I can’t answer some questions, and some are simply educated guesses or what I’ve been told by a dealer. The advice to check the other thread is good. It’s very long but there’s a TON of info there from some very knowledgeable people.

And full disclosure: I don’t own a RS6 yet, but I have a factory-accepted order that was originally placed by someone else Oct ‘23, then taken over by me Dec 12, ‘23. It is still changeable, meaning it has not yet locked. When I took over the cancelled order, I changed it to my spec which may have further delayed it (I’ll never know).

I was on the list with my local (very small) dealer for over a year before they told me they’d not be able to get another allocation and to do my best to find it elsewhere. I didn’t need their “permission”, but after buying many cars from them in the past 12 years (Porsches and BMW) they had earned my business. They don’t charge over-MSRP. But that didn’t work out.

I lucked into the allocation at another out-of-state dealer simply by calling at the right time, and they also don’t charge over-MSRP and are willing to sell to non-residents. Some dealers (like my local dealer) do not sell to folks out-of-area. Needless to say I have been reading about and studying the configurator a lot (leading up to my allocation). Now I’m being as patient as possible. Best of luck!

    2. What dealer do you recommend. I'm in CA if that helps. I see some 2024s with up to $6k off. Is that realistic. You’ll be very lucky to find a dealer offering a discount off of a car you order to your spec. Getting MSRP is more realistic although there are plenty of dealers in the US still asking over-MSRP. I have no experience with CA dealers other than what I read on Rennlist, and it seems most of them charge over-MSRP, at least with Porsches. Best advice is to call any dealer you’re willing to work with and see if they can help. It’s more realistic to try for a discount off a car sitting on the lot that hasn’t moved in awhile. Most seem to move in a reasonable amount of time. I’ve only read a few accounts of people getting discounts off dealer lots.

    3. I'm considering a custom order as I want cognac and the Alcantara headliner. The former is a must, the latter is a proffered. Is the port delays etc making this a nightmare or is is overblown? As stated above, yes port delays are a nightmare. The acceptance of new orders for RS6 amongst several other models was completely halted: announced 1/19/24. I believe production also stopped for awhile but have read it has resumed. Cars that were ordered Oct ‘23 are only recently “locking” (no longer able to change spec) with manufacturing dates of July ‘24 and delivery date estimates of Dec ‘24-Jan ‘25. This has happened with two orders I’ve read about. These are not order requests. These are orders accepted and placed at the factory.
As for “custom order”: if you’re referring to the standard interior offering of Cognac, as long as it’s still on the configurator you should have no trouble ordering it assuming the rest of your configuration doesn’t disqualify it (for example, if you order the Comfort Seat instead of the Standard Sport Seat, you automatically must order black interior, and the Comfort Seats do not come with the “fancy” stitching (which is a shame). Comfort seats come with passenger seat memory, I believe a 10-way adjustment instead of standard 6-way, and seat massage. Double check that as it’s been awhile since I studied the options, and they may have changed again in the past few months. But if you’re talking about Audi Exlusive (AE) options, that has been closed for model year 2024 for some time. No AE paint or AE interiors are currently available to order. I’ve read where the AE “window’ may reopen for MY2025 (assuming there’s a model year 2025, but no guarantee.

    5. What's next for the RS6. Will CC brakes be available again for MY25? When will the C9 drop and would you want to deal with even more weight and complexity. I was told by two dealers that CCB will not come back because of lack of demand with the RS6. I would have ordered them if available. I’m told it is a tiny percentage of people that order them on the RS6 and Audi dropped it. That could be incorrect, or it could change, but that’s what I was told.

I have the hard numbers on CCBs - they have run anywhere between 23-38% of orders since launch. Not insignificant for such an expensive option. AFAIK the disappearance is solely due to supply issues.

Thanks - that a much percentage than was indicated to me! Hoping the supply issues are resolved as I would add it back to my order if possible.

I have drc on my 24’ RS7 P. It stiffens up in most aggressive mode and is comfortable enough (for me) in comfort.

If CA, you mean California and not canada I bought mine from Audi Long Beach. No issues. Great guy. Can forward his info if you want.

I ordered mine pretty close to when they were putting in orders in 2023. Ascari w/ 22” gray wheels, cognac and alcantara headliner among other options. As my car went through the build process, I was keeping an eye on incoming inventory to see if any specs were close to what I ordered. To my surprise, there weren’t, so I took delivery of mine late december.

The shifts are quick. Power seems effortless. When driving normal, they seem to shift in a way to keep the torque present without lag. My RS5 seemed to have a bit of lag lower rpms, usually it had to kick down a gear. In the most aggressive mode, the RS6/7p is a beast.

I’m impatient and waiting for possible ccbs wasn’t worth it to me. Do I wish I had them, yes. Just have to clean the wheels 4x as often.

Thank you all so much for your thoughtful and detailed responses. It's all truly appreciated and very helpful to this process. I've been telling wife that this wagon is basically an essential to allow us to travel all aboard (baby, two dogs, the wife and I)!

Yes, I meant Calif not Canada by CA. And erred in saying custom order when I meant factory order. I won't be going AE.

Bricer, your LB contact would be great if you get chance to share.

    Thx again guys, great community.
