Lightbulb I finally Disabled Start Stop

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Did this on my 2020 S7. As you know coding can’t disable start stop as it’s built into the lower screen. In my search. I found sellers on AliExpress advertising for roughly $30, a plug n play module to disable it. Well it works! Took 30min to install.

    Where to buy:
Here’s the link, but any one will work if you search up this “audi c8 start stop” https://a.aliexpress.com/_ms3m6x0

    Features of it:
When starting car it defaults start/stop off. That’s it lol. Start stop still works if you press the button. But it will always default off after ignition cycle.
FYI there are risks to installing random things off the internet. So be vigilant lol. In my case. This hasn’t affected any other functions of the car other than the intended. So far so good.

Here’s how to install it. It gets installed under the backseat:
    1. Remove the back seat. Here’s a link to instructions https://imgur.com/a/Ixv1riI
    2. Find the black module. Under some clear plastic in the center.
    3. Remove the two hex nuts, it comes with the tool.
    4. Remove the black connector harnesses. Along with the white clip that locks it in place. As that will interfere with the new module.
    5. Take the oem black harness and plug it into the new module. NOW. It can go in both ways. So insert it in the direction with the least resistance. As mine had no label. If you insert it in wrongly. It is so hard to take apart. If you insert it correctly you will hear a click.
    6. Plug the new module into the oem module and lock it in place.
    7. Put it all back in reverse order. There is no good place to place the extra harness wires. So just let it rest on top the factory module. If you sit in the middle seat you can barely feel the extra wires. But that seat is uncomfortable as is. So who cares.

If you want pictures of certain steps lmk.

Lol, I wish you would posted this two days ago. I looked online and I couldn't find anything other than what someone had done in their newer model SUV. I had bought an extra harness from someone on here so I went and unbalted the front seat and took the carpet in the trim all apart only to find there was no module in there. I did further research on Alibaba Express and found the video showing is under the back seat. I will be doing it later this week, and it should be much easier than the mess that I got into

Why not go the VCDS route? I haven't done it but I saw the functionality to disable as I was disabling my seat belt warning.

That will only work on cars up to 2018 as far as I'm aware, and maybe not even all of those. There isn't any coding change that works for the newer cars to defeat the auto start/stop, only the cable-thing.

Yeah. I kept getting annoyed by it especially whenever the screen is slow to load and the button isn’t highlighted to click

Here’s my Reddit post on it with some pics of the piggy back module

Exactly. I tried the OBD11 route. Went deep into the modules and found a switch that indicates auto start stop disable/enabled. But if you do that code. It throws a CEL and reverts back to enabled. So this was the only way I could actually disable it.

**Update per next post made valid point - When installed, car begins to unlock/lock and then gives a ton of codes. Others appear to have success, thus could just be a bad unit. 2023 RS7 is my experience.

as a potential alternative (just FYI) I had success in my 2019 A6 (C8) 55 Premium + with this --- CMT Plug Play Start/Stop Memory Module for Audi A7 S7 RS7 C8 Always Turn On/Off from Seller - AA Auto Parts on eBay (seller is in Australia) but price is a bit higher at approx. USD $95.00..install is straightforward as described by OP (don't recall it being able to be installed "both ways" but that could be my fading memory....)

I trust eBay more than AliExpress. But $30 was just too good of a deal to pass up lol

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I wanted to thank the OP and others for the link to Ali Express. Just received and installed the module on my 2019 A7. Start-stop disabled!! :)

Seems like a lot of work when you can just press a button on start up every time. Or like me, always in RS2 mode and it's not enabled.

$30 and 10 minutes of my time to install is worth not having to push the button every time like a peasant. lol.

My APR stage 1 also disabled start/stop on my S7. Became second nature to disable it every time I turned the car on

Planned on doing this today. After plenty of effort, got 2 of the 3 clips to pop up from back seat bench, way harder than I thought it would be. Got the third one (passenger side) most of the way loose but just can’t seem to get it to release. I feel like I’m so close to breaking the seat bench where the metal rod loop is that’s still hanging on, or hurting myself trying to pull and pull. It’s awkward and an uncomfortable area to work back there, but I am wondering if I’m doing something wrong. Anybody else struggle big time removing the rear bench? This has drove me crazy half of the day! I don’t want to give up but getting close.

I installed mine on my 25 a few weeks back, took about 15-20 minutes start to finish. The clips on the back of the seat were the most annoying part, but I used a screwdriver with a microfiber over it and wedged it in and popped them out fairly easily. Then pulled up on the front of the rear seat using my hand and some force to move the lower rear seat out of the way.

I will say the module (at least the one I received from Ali) seems to be able to be installed backwards, which I did at first causing a CEL and random clicking inside the car when attempting to start the car after installation. I then went back and installed the plug from the module the opposite way and the CEL went away and everything has been working well since. Make sure to test before you reinstall the back seat!

Thanks Boosting. This confirms something goofy is going on with my setup. Those 3 that have to pop up on the front…..did the black plastic clip come out all the way along with the metal rod loop thing when you removed? I’m applying so much force but still stuck on this last one!

Finally got the last one to pop out, ended up using a rope wrapped around the steel rod loop to force it up. The black plastic grommet clip broke and fell down so I hope it doesn’t rattle around. Need to get a new grommet to wrap up the little project that was way more difficult than it should have been!
