Hi new here, im looking to add a rear view camera to my A5 b8.5 s-line blackedition. I have parking sensors on back and front with the car display in reverse gear plus audio tone when getting close to objects. How do i get the reverse camera on the screen in reverse. Do i need to change some codes.

Are you seeing address 6C under your modules for the Backup camera? There is a backup camera module in the rear right electrics compartment. Are you saying you've already added this to your car or are you trying a direct connection?
My backup camera coding is: Coding: 1020008
It is the same on my 2013 S5 and my 2013 RS5.

I'm sure there's something you probably need to do in the long coding of 5F or the green menu of MMI (I assume you have MMI 3G since you say you have OPS). But no idea what that would be. I'm sure there's content on retrofitting the backup camera for B8.5 already out there.

Looks like OPS might not require having MMI, seems it might be possible with just Radio as well. In that case, you'd have to eval the coding of 56, and there's no green menu for non-MMI.

I have an A5 B8.5 8T 2014 coupe mmi nav+ I've bought an after market rear-view boot handle camera to replace the original boot handle that I'm looking at fitting.
At the moment when reverse gear is selected the mmi screen will change and i get the normal PDC image of the car with front and back sensors that light up when too close with audio beeping.
I do have the "rear-view camera" option in "mmi green screen" below the already highlighted "parking distance control" option. But if i tick that box then put it in reverse gear the mmi display doesn't change at all, it doesn't even show the PDC image, what am i doing wrong, are there and options in "mmi green screen" i need to change or VCDS codes that may help, I tried going into 6C but the vcds wouldn't connect.

An aftermarket camera, or a used Audi camera? Aftermarket cameras tend to have the composite video signal (yellow plug) output. There's not an input for such to the J794, that I know of. The signal from the Audi camera is on the FAKRA cable, and goes to the J772 control module. That then overlays the overlay and sends the completed image to the MMI J794, again over FAKRA. Do you have the J772 module installed? If the J794 cannot interact with the J772, it probably assumes there's no video feed and doesn't attempt to display it.

Run a full autoscan log and post that so we can see what the car looks like from a control modules perspective.

So, what all does the J772 module do? I don't know. I know that the back-up video only comes on when the car is in reverse, and that it will stay on for a certain time when you come out of reverse (minute or so) unless you drive forward at a speed of around 10mph/16kph then the video stops. Is that all the J772's work or does some of it come from the Canbus (speed?). If you were to hook your video signal direct to the MMI (J794) would you get a signal? Would you have a continuous backup video? If you have a aftermarket camera there are RCA video to Fakra adapters, I replaced the OEM camera on my Cayenne which Porsche wanted $1500 for and got as good of a picture for $20. There should be lots of Audi backup cameras in wrecking yards though.
I have a friend that hooked up an aftermarket camera to his '09 A6 and got it to work. I'll send him an Email to see what he did. I know he needed his Vagcom to do some coding. Not sure if he acquired a J772 module. Are all cars wired for it already so it's plug & play, only coding needed??

The J772 is for laying the guidance lines over the video feed from the camera. But just running the video feed from the camera to the J794, for example, using a union between the green and gray FAKRAs, there's no reason to assume you'll get the raw image presented if the J794 cannot interact with the J772. Someone would have to try it to find out what the J794 would actually do.

At the moment when i select reverse i get the PDC image (birds eye view) of the car with the radar sensors that light up red and audio tone when object to close. The camera i have is an after market one, the sort with a power cable and a yellow RCA cable, Its not essential to have the guidance lines that move on the camera view but i would like the PDC image of the car (birds eye view) with radar sensors that light up red when object close and audio tone in the corner of the screen over laying the camera image, i saw a video where a guy used the same camera and wired the yellow RCA image cable (with end cut off) in to the 5th row of the "blue block" on the back of the Quad lock, then he changed a setting in VCDS and the camera appeared.

any help is great cheers Dave

So MY14 A5, with MMI 3G Plus (Plus = Connected High and replaced MMI 3G High, ie MMI navigation plus, at the facelift).

It appears the backup camera is run to the quad block for MMI 3G, unlike on my MMI 2G. The TV tuner still comes in on a FAKRA, but not the backup camera. So he's connecting it to the same pins 11 and 5 as the factory module would use. This is on the blue 12-pin plug. The quad-block is just a frame for the 8-pin brown, 8-pin black, 12-pin blue, and 12-pin green plugs installed into it. The RCA center pin would go to 11, the RCA ring "pin" would go to 5, it would appear.

But as to what kind of video signal is expected on those pins, and if that camera produces what the J794 is expecting, no idea. The rest of the video inputs on the J794 seems to be FBAS (from the TV tuner and the AMI port). The video output to the J685 screen is LVDS. So the wiring is simple enough to isolate, but as to what software changes are needed, no idea. You'd want to recheck that video.

That battery voltage is not good.
