Big Turbo Brilliant Black B7 A4 Build

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My newfound mountain of parts and rental of a storage unit tells me it’s time to start a write up for this build as it gets going.

To put it short I’ll be doing:
    Fully forged built EA113
    G25-660 Reverse Rotation
    Tiptronic to O1E 6MT

    Current Parts List:
    - AMC Assembled Head w/ Camshafts
    - ARP Head Studs
    - ARP Cam Tower Bolt
    - IE ARP Crankshaft Damper Bolt
    - Ferrea Valves, Springs & Retainers
    - IE Billet Adjustable Camshaft Gear
    - IE Billet Press Fit Timing Belt Drive Gear
    - IE Intake Manifold
    - IE Billet Valve Cover
    - IE 2.0T FSI Catch Can Kit for IE Billet Valve Cover

    - Calico Main & Rod Bearings
    - Fluidampr
    - 034 Engine Mounts
    -034 Snub Mount
    - Balance Shaft Delete

    - Garrett G25-660 Reverse Rotation T51R IWG
    - BarTek 2.0L TFSI & TSI Turbo Manifold

    - Bilstein B14
    - 034 Density Line Complete Front Control Arm Kit
    - H&R Front and Rear Anti-Sway Bar Kit

    - B6 S4 18” Avus Wheels
    - Toyo R1R 245/40/18

    - JHM Cayenne 350mm Front BBK
    - OE Rear Calipers w/ StopTech Street Slotted Rotors

    - B7 DTM Front Bumper
    - OSIR B7 A4R Carbon Fiber Grille & Surround
    - OSIR Carbon Fiber Grille Rings Logo Support
    - Faithful Rainbow Carbon Fiber Euro Trunk Lid w/ Integrated Lip Spoiler
    - Faithful Rainbow Carbon Fiber Vented Front Fenders

There is still a ton of miscellaneous pieces I’ll need along the way, which will come as they are needed. Some parts will also be taken off the existing engine, like the oil pump, water pump, etc.

Would like to ask suggestions for a turbo kit, if there are any that can reach my 400awhp goal still on the shelf - I’ve seen ATP’s are discontinued and RAI no longer sells theirs in house or online. All I can find now is JHM’s TD05H-R but I don’t think it’s enough.

I’ll add pictures to the thread as it progresses.

Edit: State of the car at the beginning.

What I would do is look at either:

    • CTS BOSS kit (be prepared to modify for B7...)
    • Pulsar G25-550 with custom manifold (I like Kakarakis)
    • Pulsar G25-550 Reverse orientation with Bartek / Turbo Total "Thor" manifold.

BTW, not sure your injectors can support 400 WHP.

What injectors do you think would be better suited?

Wondering if RS3 injectors would be plug in play from JPY.

RS3 injectors will need a modified harness. You can do that yourself of course. I paid a guy in the UK to do mine (about 100$ including a junkyard A4 harness to work from).

Looks like a lot of moneys ;)

Hey, PM and admin about moving the thread to builds section.

Also, if you use [img] tags people can see the images without logging in first. Use (for example) Imgur.com/upload then select ‘get share links’ and the BB board option for URLs with tags.

Will do. New to this posting thing. I’ll have to check out that tags bit, but looks like I fixed the last 5 images I uploaded.

Arguably the best parts of the build arrived today (and an IE HPFP)

After some help from the forums, I’ve gone with a Garrett G25-550 and a Bar-Tek Manifold. IMG_7976.jpg

Wow, that fast shipping. Looking great.

Do check the IE HPFP if they increased the diameter of the barb fitting. Loba Motorsports (and a lot of people, myself included) drill this fitting to 5 mm ID.

Drove to storage this past weekend and picked up a few parts to add to the pile in the basement - Bilstein B14’s, H&R F&R sway bars, P3 vent gauge.

    IMG_8012.jpg

Still waiting on the block to ship, should be in by next week.

Also finished installing the OSIR Carbon Mask A4B7 R to the DTM front bumper I had to JB weld a little crack at the base.

Wheels need a good power wash, probably some curb repair and maybe if it comes down to it a refinish.

OSIR ring mount and side skirts came in today - the entire house smells of plastic or glue lol.

01E transmission swap kit is on order, looking at May/June delivery.

Still need IE Tuscan rods, a clutch, bigger injectors, Walbro 450, Torqbyte, misc things.

Also decided to send back the G25-550 and go for the 660 with a T51R mod - looking around May delivery first that as well.

Why IE Tuscan rods specifically? Any decision on injectors?

    The DTM stuff looks great.

Funnily enough I actually ordered their forged H-beam rods yesterday instead - was thinking of overbuilding for peace of mind but these will do just fine.

No ideas on injectors yet, was looking at a set of RS3 with adapter harnesses from JDY but turns out their harness was specific to a different model.

Edit: JDY RS3 Kit, but for 8P S3, MK2 TTS, and Golf 6R

    https://jdyperformance.com/products/...44926197498016

Was also looking for a drop in Walbro 450 Pump - came across this kit from JDY as well but again, not for the B7 platform but for the Golf R.

Tires came in yesterday, waiting on a wheel clean to get them mounted. They’re Toyo R1R 245/40/18, going on my B6 S4 18x8 OEM Avus wheels. Should fit them just fine, will see about spacers - was originally planning to use an ECS Tuning flush kit.

Almost the last of the parts deliveries this past week - including:

    New VAG 6F-103-011-J block

034 Density Line Complete Front Control Arm Kit

Snow Performance Boost Cooler Stage 3 SNO-310-BRD Water Methanol Injection Kit

Still waiting on delivery of the 01E swap kit to deliver, as well as the G25-660 with the T51R mod and an RS3 Injector/Harness kit from JDY I’ll try to wire up.

Build should start moving here come end May/beginning June.

I’ll mention only having dealt with the RS3 injectors. Be aware there are maps in most tuning software that are not unlocked to use the injectors. You may require a chip tune in order to unlock the maps needed. 2nd there are 2 completely different ECU internal permanent softwares. 1 will allow the unlock the other does not have the maps. You’ll also want to direct the spray of those injectors to the correct spot. You’ll want to look over seas for the correct details for your injector part number.

It’s easier to run 4x s3 injectors + 1x 1300+cc port injector than to run the 4 RS3 injectors. From experience is the only reason I post this. Happy to see this but know the issues you’ll struggle with. Best of luck.

I appreciate the information, thank you!

I’m planning on running the S3 units through to next winter, when I’ll maybe have time to troubleshoot through the RS3 units - I remember seeing a reply from you on another build thread and aside from saying they require ECU legwork, that you had the ‘files’. Mind sharing anything further on the topic? No pressure at all.

    Time for an update.

Since the last post all of the parts have come in but the transmission swap kit, which is expected in June.

Garrett G25-660 Reverse Rotation IWG T51R

    JHM Forged Lightweight Flywheel

    Torqbyte PM4 Controller

    Walbro 450

Also met with Billy at A2B Motorsports after a recommendation, thanks to Hugh, and will be getting the car scheduled next week.

Sat down with Billy and revised the parts list, and changed some things around. Switching to:

    A2B Recommended JE Pistons

FFE Racing X Beam Connecting Rods

    Stage 3 Clutch

Also added a balance shaft delete to the long list instead of doing a freewheel.

Update: The new motor is back from the machine shop and the old motor is scheduled to come out by week’s end.

Transmission swap kit has apparently shipped, but I was told this almost 3 weeks ago too.

Recently picked up a much needed/maybe not replacement glovebox lid, as well as some door blades, a rear diffuser, skid plate, and replacement OE A4 rear calipers for the StopTech Street Slotted rotors.

Scheduled to mount the new R1R’s on the Avus wheels - looking second week of July now since my local is on vacation until then.

Also thinking about rash repair on the wheels, but expecting around $700. I think I’ll throw them on the car first and see.

    Time for an update:

Almost two months later the 01E swap kit is now at A2B Motorsports, awaiting the new SBC Stage 3 Daily clutch I was recommended to switch to from the Spec Stage 2 unit.

Tires are also mounted on the wheels.

In the past time I also picked up some gauges, defrost pod, a Coolerworx carbon fiber shifter kit, and euro window switches to prevent the coating from peeling.

Final part drop off to A2B is next weekend, the 17th. Should have some pictures to put up after the visit.

Engine should be getting fully dressed and dropped into the car today, was told end of week and here we are. Here’s a clip of the engine when it came back from FFE on A2B’s Instagram.

Exhaust is going to be fabbed up after the engine is in.

Suspension has been done, rocking a lift kit since no motor is in.

Brakes should be completed before mid next week, brake pads were finally ordered after a change in caliper decision.

Interior is also being swapped to black with parts from a B6 S4, and all of those interior bits listed will also be done during the same job. Includes CarPlay, double gauge pod on the defroster, alcantara steering wheel, etc.

DTM bumper was also dropped off along with the OSIR skirts, so those will be installed towards the end of the project. Not sure if it’s listed here already, but picked up a set of side grille inserts to tie the bumper together. Hoping the intercooler piping shows through. Will obviously be deleting fog lights.

Hoping to see the car on the dyno end of month, and pick it up following that.

Big Turbo Brilliant Black B7 A4 Build

Update: Motor is assembled albeit not dressed.

Front subframe is dropped waiting on A6 axles missed in the swap kit I was sent. First time seeing the brakes both rotor and caliper together - look bigger than I expected lol should stop very well. Suspension and all new control arms from 034 are in too.

In the next two weeks car should be getting mechanically sound and then tuned.

Exhaust on the front of the engine - turbo to end downpipe - is complete and waiting on the remainder as well as some oil return line and coolant line fittings.

Also working to confirm how much of the engine mount needs to be chopped off to fit the G25-660 with the current manifold.

Are those 18Z? And if so, what rotor did you go with? 350mm? 352mm? From where?

Yes they are 18Z Cayenne calipers and running 350mm JHM 2 piece rotors.

Motor and transmission are in! Turbo kit being finalized and fabbed up - intake and exhaust still to go. Also waiting on port injection fuel rail that wasn’t sent with an order.

Looks great. Can you share some pics of the engine mount / engine bracket where the turbo sits?

Looking to pick the car up either this week if we’re being optimistic (entire trans adaptation and wiring to do) or next week. I’ll see if I can have it put on a lift and get a picture of the engine mount bracket.

If I ever end up changing the turbo however I’ll be going with a custom top mount. Interested to see how the intake fairs with being close to the aluminum street shield and higher ambient heat - a top mount would subject the inlet and the filter to colder air.

Excellent, thanks, will check out JHM. Been junkyard diving and have 18Z from a Cayenne Turbo and 4 pot Brembos from a Q7 for the rear. I am only missing rotors, pads and I think front lines.

Big Turbo Brilliant Black B7 A4 Build

Update for those asking about how much I plan to cut off the engine mount bracket - note this is from another member who’s documented a G25-660 build on AZ.
