How’s the trunk space on the rs3?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I’ve located an allocated rs3 and am hoping to put a deposit down tomorrow. I never see a3/s3s up here in southern vt so I’m just wondering how small it really is? The rs3 will be a daily driver and we have a big VW atlas for bigger trips and hauling kids and dogs etc.

Can it fit a suitcase or two? A set of Golf clubs?
Google says the rs3 is almost identical to my old b7 rs4 which certainly had decent trunk space as I recall.

Just hoping to hear from your real world experience with this car.

    Thank you!

Its not all that big, but plenty of room for a carryon sized luggage and whatnot. Put the seats down and its really roomy.

I'd say it's pretty small but it depends on what you're coming from. But since you have an SUV as well you'll probably be fine.

You can fit one real big rollie suitcase or 2 medium sized. I would bet 3 carry on sized. The really big stuff the problem becomes the size of the opening and the height of the top of the trunk in my opinion. Things that are not tall are great or can be squished like duffel suitcases are great.

It's about 2 water bottles tall. lol
I go to walmart and grab 9 cases of 28 packs at a time. I'm pretty confident I could put 12 cases in there, if I arranged things right maybe I could fit 14-16.

The other week on a ski trip we fit two 75L Dakine Boot bags (https://www.dakine.com/products/boot...6-f5a4361d5447), 2 40L Patagonia duffel bags, 6 bottles of liquor, and a few other random things (extra jackets, shoes, etc.). Was pleasantly surprised that we jammed all of that in there.

Trunk is good. This is where the sedan is better than the hatch, as the truck is longer/deeper. vs. the hatch's height. It can handle a full grocery trip. My golf clubs fit fine... you might have to take your driver out of your bag and put it through the center pass-through.

Hatches / sport wagons have way more space than a sedan due to that low rear deck lid on the sedans, which hangs down quite a bit on the front side.

I’ve hauled new TV’s, lawn mower and furniture in my wife’s GTI.

    According to VW/Audi specs -

The 2023 Audi RS3 Sedan has 8.3 cubic feet of trunk space. The split-folding 40/20/40 rear seatbacks can collapse to provide 11.3 cubic feet of space.

The 2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI has 19.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. With the 60/40 split rear seats folded down, the cargo space increases to 34.5 cubic feet.

My trunk space after subwoofer & dog walking gear. Enough for an average grocery run, but not enough to carry a large square object.

The GTI's cargo space numbers assume you stack to the roofline. Which is absolutely possible and great when you need it occasionally. But it is impractical from a daily perspective as you lose your rearview and the cargo is probably not restrained.

If you measure the GTI's actual trunk-trunk, with the shelf installed, it is very small. The sedan's trunk is much deeper and allows for more secure storage, particularly of long items such as golf clubs. You can't get a set of clubs in a GTI without putting the seats down for example.

Personally I say it’s small. Unless you fold rear seats down, can not fit a golf bag or small push cart. I don’t know if I even want to try to fit my mountain bike in the trunk even with seats folded down, would have to remove foot pedals at least probably.

All things that fit easily in my 3’er

What’s a spare? lol My RS & R came with a compressed can of goo and a pump. Rear differentials take up space.

Personally the spare is worth the extra cylinder (battery in trunk spare compartment) as well as AWD. I’d hate for the OP to be concerned about trunk space only to find they aren’t getting a spare and have to sacrifice more space if they want one. The spare has kept me from requiring a tow more than once in my 60k miles of ownership…and yes the goo and pump also made me “LOL” when I saw it

Did your cars come with the wheel cap removal tool in the trunk? Went to put on spacers yesterday and couldnt find the damn tool to pop the caps off to get to the lugs.

Probably worth mentioning to the dealer - I bet they have a bunch of these lying around in the shop for them to just give you one.

It is a reasonable trunk for what it is. I have done full groceries with it and I carried median size luggage. If you intend to drive this car daily for ocasional errands, go to work and do small shopping is OK. The front seats are very very fat and thick so if you try to stuff something on the rear seats you will have to move the front seat forward and you end up shrinking the front.

The trunk cu-ft capacity is average to mediocre, I have a 2009 Honda civic sedan and the trunk is deeper, wider and taller but overall I will tell you that you shouldn't stress it too much. the truck space is adequate.
