CAEB vs CPMB Cylinder Heads

Guys can anyone help me with this please.

Whats the difference between CPMB head and CAEB head? Visually they are the same. One is flex fuel and other is fuel only. I cant find difference visually or mechanically.

My CPMB head is cracked and I have CAEB head from 2010 A4. Can i just swap intakes over and use CAEB?

I seem to remember that the flex cam had more lobes or lift driving the hpfp.Smac770 ?

Where the intake manifold bolts to the head is different. im not saying it cant be used but i definitely noticed differences in the head.. do you have a pic of the mating surfaces of both ?

interesting you post that pic as the crack from the spark plug hole to the seat was a big problem on the Porsche 996 engine ( M96 ) also. Never seen it on anAudi till you posted this.

Yeah same here. I’ve been rebuilding 2.0T engines for years now and never ran across this issue before. This client came in with typical low compression and once I found out his 4th cylinder piston was broken / partially melted I focused on bottom end. While rebuilding cylinder head I found these hairline cracks after soda blasting this head.
I have a lot of CAEB heads at the shop and non CPMB. Other than fuel rail and aluminum intake heads visually look same. Thats why I thought maybe they will work.

On side note: would you happen to have or have a lead on a 911 3.4L throttle body (cable driven)?
I’m swapping my 2.5L Boxster for 3.2L.

yeah the 3.4 is a bit or a rare bird given the number of failures and the fact they didn't make them for that long

I'm in Canada but in the US auto Atlanta might be able to help out. I think partsheaven is out of business now.
I'd get on Pelican or rennlist, those guys will hook you up im sure .

given the additional details on the client you are working with, I would say all bets are off as to what happened to that head with the catastrophic failure they experienced, ie: anything goes. I had the head welded on the 3.4 and the valve seat reground. not worth it at all on that head.. it's now a door stop

Mine cracked exactly same I posted picture 2 year ago. Found out when taking head out to change valve spring for stiffer one.
