Odd noise, Rt Rear, after Fuel Line upgrade

Reposting this in here since it got zero response in the main page...

Upgraded the fuel lines the other day and when starting it, especially after a long sit (days), there is loud noise that comes from the passenger rear area. I would describe it as a growl... akin to an old motor before the oil pressure picks up... that I located somewhere in the Rt Rear area.

Has anyone else that upgraded lines created odd noises from the fuel pump or lines? I figured the first time was the dry line pressurizing... and it was MUCH worse than the 2nd time. By the 4th or 5th start, it didn't do it at all.

Today after not driving it for 4 days, it did it for a second or two, about as long as normal chain rattle. It only does it on start up pump, not on pre-start pressures.

It is definitely fuel associated. I had the "vibrating" cross over line noise which I cured. I am wondering if it's common and if it's something similar to that from a line under that I just need to isolate a little better!

Till then, I'm keep an ear on it.

    Cheers,

    KS

I've done a fair amount of wire harness/air line routing for work and projects. A loose wire, or in this case, fuel line, rattling against sheet metal can make a much louder noise than expected.
I'd check if all the line are properly retained/isolated.

get pipe insulation. Your LP line from the Tank is vibrating. It needs to be shrouded with some pipe insulation and to keep it from vibrating.

Its not that bad of an install....remove rear lower seat, undo 3 Philips screws, slide on the pipe foam/insulation......walla.

Funny you mention that... I started it up today and with clarity only available for a few scant seconds in the dawns early light, the vision of the LP line off the pump flashed in my mind as I heard it. I literally heard it vibrate in concert with the HPFPs as it cranked over and I instantly knew what it was!

I did not know it was under the seat though. That's pretty easy and I'll take a look this evening!

    Thanks!

When you change the OEM fuel lines to a AN based set-up... a la SRM Fuel Line Reroute. I did it DIY though as all the parts are readily available, including the E-Sensor, and at a fraction of the price.

I did find some interesting things while doing this that aren't usually mentioned. In addition to the fittings being nearly 60% smaller than the -6 fittings, which makes the upgrade mandatory for anyone planning to go to high E content fuel, there is a filter/strainer in each of them that could be a significant cause of the known restrictions if they are catching debris (they look to be in the 15 micron range!).

The car showed an instant improvement in static reving and in acceleration and at about 1/2 the price it was money well spent for future tunings!!

    Cheers,

    KS
