Is ZF Lifeguard fluid 6 compatible with fluid 8?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just finished draining my 2005 B6 S4 automatic transmission and replacing the oil strainer/filter.

I purchased 10 quarts of ZF Lifeguard fluid 8.

In the past (I found an old bottle) I'd used fluid 6.

    Are they compatible?

The local Audi dealer gave me the part number and fluid 8 came up as a result.

    Anyone happen to know?

Supposedly but when I went for a drain and fill with Lifeguard 8 in place of 6 in my A4, it was a thinner and the end result was a lot of slipping. Instead, got everything replaced with Redline D4 and life was great.

In some cases you need a software update for using Lifeguard 8. ZF changed my transmission oil to Lifeguard 8 after a flush and shifts silky smooth. 👍

Thank you for the reply! So that was a 2007 A4? Which transmission?

I asked the local Audi dealer about the software update. They said they do not have records available for other Audi dealers, so can't tell me if I have the software update.

Is there a way to tell if the software update has been made to my 2005 B6 S4? The fluid I drained was brown.

Were you previously using Lifeguard 6 and just flushed and filled with Lifeguard 8? Or did you have the software update before switching from 6 to 8? Is your Audi a B6 or B7? Thanks Rol-co!

My car is a b7, it probably had 6 in it because it was never done, ZF changed it to the new 8 and told me sometimes it need an update, they didn't tell me when or what version. Or maybe it's just an adjustment. They read it trough the transmission connector because i have removed my obd connector and the didn't asked me where it is. Later when i looked at vcds there had been communication errors with the transmission.
They performed a flusch between the old and new to get the most of old oil out, all this took about seven hours.

    Thanks Rol-co!

    I'm still confused.

I will stick to the lifeguard 8 that I have and see how it goes.

I'll report back on the results.

Should be no problem if the transmission is in good shape and no faults. Its no "repair oil"
