    2015 Q5 Sunshade No Power

    Hi All.

I just noticed today when I went to open my sunshade that it is non-responsive. That is, it is not like it is getting bound up or any issue like that, rather, just no response at all. However the sunroof works just fine. In trying to do some searching, it looks like they share the same motor, correct? I checked my fuse (20A driver side position C11) and it is good.

If it shares the motor with the sunroof, which is working, and the fuse is not blown, the only other thing I can think of is the forward/back button may be bad?

    Any insights are appreciated.

The sunroof glass is moved by a motor at the front end of the sunroof frame. Control module J245 with motor V1.
The sunroof shade is moved by a motor at the rear end of the sunroof frame. Control module J394 with motor V260.
Both control modules are connected to the J393 control module (46-central convenience) via a LIN bus line.
They are powered by separate fuses. Driver's end of dash, column red, fuse 9 (20A) for the glass, fuse 11 (20A) for the shade.

Thanks for the details. Is the sunroof shade motor accessible from the back w/o having to drop the headliner for testing and/or replacement? I'm assuming I can directly apply 12v to the motor to test? Yes, the fuse is good, so I'd like to test the motor next.

EDIT: Having a hard time discerning the part number on this. Are the front and rear motors technically the same?

    I see this here at #19: https://www.audipartsstore.com/oem-p...tor-7n0959591b (7N0-959-591-B)

But then I see this listed separately:

If it's like the avant, you'll have to drop the headliner to get to the sunshade motor. It's at the back of the sunroof frame.
Technically, the motor is always powered, 24x7. Both the battery connection (via the fuse) and the ground connection are always active.
You should check the J393 in VCDS or such and see if there are any codes. There should also be output tests for the sunshade and sunroof, since the J393 can interact with the control modules via LIN.

Curious, the Q5 version of the motor units doesn't appear to have a direct connection from the sunshade controls to the sunshade motor, like I have in my A4 avant. Both vehicles use the same control unit, 8K0959613A, with its 10-pin plug. But it's wired differently, and the vehicles use different motor units.

Looking at the 10 pins on the control dial for the A4:

1 - J519 interior illumination for the backlighting
    2 - J245
    3 - J245
4 - J394 (suspect shade buttons ground line)
5 - J394 (suspect shade buttons power supply
    6 - J245
7 - J394 (suspect shade buttons action line)
    8 - J245
    9 - J245 (ground)
    10 - J245

Looking at the 10 pins on the control dial for the Q5:

    1 - J519 interior lighting
    2 - J245
    3 - J245
    4 - chassis ground
    5 - no connection
    6 - J245
    7 - J245
    8 - J245
    9 - J245
    10 - no connection

So the reporting of the shade button actions is being handled differently in the Q5. In the A4, the buttons are wired directly to the J394. But in the Q5, they are being monitored by the J245 and likely conveyed via the LIN bus line to the J394. Why change it? No idea. But yeah, checking for codes on the J393 would likely be a good thing. Also check that fuse 9, since now the J394 won't be getting anything if the J245 is down.

For the Q5, it uses the same motor for both positions, with 16-pin plugs. You can see the glass motor in the 7th and 11th pics, the shade motor in the 3rd to last.

Really appreciate the detailed reply. No VCDS but I do have OBD11, so I can at least run some diagnostics first to see if anything obvious stands out. Would be great though to actually be able to actuate / run tests of the shade directly, but this gets me started with enough detail to see where it leads. Cheers.
