    Used 2021 RS7??`

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

Looking at a used RS7 today:

    (1) what problems should I look for (its got 17k miles)
    (2) can we tune the engine safely to APR stage 2
    (3) is the 8 speed trans tunable like that in the A6 via HP tuner?

    Thanks so much!!

Just went thru that exercise last month. Here's what I came up with:
    (1) only major issue seems to be the 48 volt battery (check the thread about issues on this forum). Feels like the luck of the draw on that one.
    (2) The engine is reliable and solid. No issues reported I could find. My dealer even shared that they have not seen a major failure on that platform with tuned cars. Mine is now stage 2 tuned.
    (3) yes the 8 speed is tunable but not sure about it's possible with HP tuner.
As a side note, removing the resonators is a must for sound (no need to spend 6K on a cat-back). I have catless DP and if I had to redo it, I might chose 200 cell cats as it's a V8 and I was not expecting that strong of a smell.

Thanks for the comments, the car has sport exhaust, B&O sound, and I'd expect other than additional subwoofers, custom wheels, and stage 2 tuning along with total paint correction, my out of pocket will be very limited initially.

    New to Me RS7

    Hey guys and gals,

I commented earlier today I was considering a 2021 RS7 with 17K. Couldn't help myself and brought it home. Wheels to be corrected for slight curb rash and full paint correction coming (by dealer). It's a sublime beast.

Considering summer wheel/tire combo, potential subwoofer addition and/or APR tune. That said, I'll dampen doors before stereo upgrades (already has B&O sound) and drive a month or two before implementing a tune - if any. These RS's are beasts and I was pleasantly surprised as to performance over tuned A6 (eco/tcu).

With 17K on the odometer and a year of warranty, I feel I'm in good shape. If anyone has thoughts and "necessary to do items" please let me know.

    Thanks much!

Congrats on such a wicked ride! I have enjoyed mine since the start. I had an A6 years ago, but the V8 is just intoxicating. Welcome to the club

Congratulations. Beautiful ride. I also have a 2021 RS7. I live in northern Indiana (by South Bend) and it drives great in the snow. I bought it in 2022 with only 5,000 on the odometer, so almost brand new. I didn't buy it from an Audi dealer, but a private dealer that sells high-end luxury vehicles. I have not, nor am I going to, tune mine or do anything with the exhaust or, really, the vehicle in general. Just not my thing. It already came with super dark tinted windows, and I won't be changing anything on the vehicle. That said, I still have some information that you may find helpful based upon my experiences:

    1. The biggest possible issue with it, as previously mentioned, is the 48 volt mild hybrid system/alternator. It's a very common problem, and I do agree with the other poster that it's a crap shoot. There's no way to know if your car will suffer from it. Shortly after I bought my RS7, I received a letter from Audi that essentially stated that it's a known problem, the warranty has been extended to 7 years (if I remember correctly), Audi will reimburse you if you've already paid out of pocket to have it replaced, and Audi will cover a certain amount of rental car fees while your Audi is being fixed. A few months ago, I was driving to get a haircut and BOOM all sorts of warning lights started throwing up! The A/C shut off, too. Unfortunately, I just can't remember exactly what warnings popped up on the digital dash, but there were three or four - something like all wheel drive malfunction, differential malfunction, check engine, and battery malfunction. I immediately assumed that it was the 48 volt mild hybrid/alternator problem. From what I've read, when it happens, you only have roughly 30 minutes of drive time before the car dies and you cannot jump it. Luckily, when it happened, I was only 12 miles from my local Audi dealer. I slowly and carefully drove it to the dealership, and my assumption was right: the 48 volt mild hybrid/alternator failed. They had FIVE other Audis at the dealership with the same problem waiting for the parts from Germany. My car was at the dealership for six full weeks until the parts came in and it was repaired. They provided me with a free loaner, and nothing was charged to me since it was all covered under warranty. In addition to all of this, be sure that you check online, or have the dealership check, for any unresolved recalls. I have had a handful of recall notices sent to me by Audi, all of which I had done at the dealership for free. Other than the failure of the 48 volt mild hybrid/alternator issue, I've had zero problems with my RS7.

    2. Before I bought it, and since it was used, I called the original selling dealership in Rhode Island to ask if they had any important service notes. I'm so glad I called, because the service advisor told me that the original owner purchased the Audi Care prepaid maintenance package, which follows the car. The dealership I bought it at didn't even know about it, so I sure am glad I called the original selling dealership, because with the package, all of my oil changes and required maintenance (except tire balance, rotation, and alignments) are free for 50,000 miles - and that's a savings of thousands of dollars. The original selling dealer told me that the 40,000 service itself is roughly $2,000!

    3. Does your RS7 have the standard Bang & Olufsen stereo, or does it have the Advanced system? If you're unsure, the Advanced system has the rise-up tweeters in the dash and bright silver speaker grills in the doors. Mine has the Advanced system. I was, to say the least, quite underwhelmed with the sound quality. No highs; no treble even with the treble setting all the way up. All music platforms I tried sounded pretty bad. Definitely not worth the $4,900 Audi charges for the Advanced system. It's absolutely ridiculous that there is no midrange control - only bass and treble. To make a long story short, I found a solution: I signed up for Spotify premium, which has a built-in equalizer, and MAN does it make all the difference. The sound quality is night and day! By adjusting the equalizer settings in the car stereo itself, and the equalizer settings in Spotify, I now love the stereo! I haven't had any issues with the door trim, speaker grills, or speaker casings rattling/buzzing like some people on here (luckily).

I hope some of this information is helpful to you! Thanks.

Thanks for there great information, guys. I'm looking into MyAudi USA, recalls and AudiCare this afternoon. Based on receipts I have from service, it looks like the car likely has Audi Care. Hence I can get every maintenance item comped though the 4th year. Proactively looking for recalls and extended maintenance issues is a great idea. I'll make a list of anything nI find as it might impact some of you.
