With the advent of new technology comes the unfortunate side effect of regulations that do not allow North American owners to have the full functionality of what that their car can offer. Luckily there are ways to activate items that are not generally available for the North American market and one of the most useful and advanced are the full matrix high beams that so many new Audi models come with but do not function in North America. These can now be activated along with some other lighting functions depending on your model and factory fitted equipment:

Information:
A little disappointed with your matrix LED headlights only acting like standard LED headlights? This package has the tools and software coupled with a remote session to activate the full matrix LED and/or laser headlight functionality for your North American model to get the most out of your headlights. This only works with models that have factory fitted matrix LED headlights. Not sure how matrix high beams function, please take a moment to watch the video above.

If you are unsure if these product applies to your model please contact and supply your VIN so you can be informed if this applies to your vehicle: [email protected] *Note this product only applies to 2021+ 8Y models.

Ordering:
Ordering is completed through the website with the product link above. A VAS interface will be sent out for your purchase or rental depending on your selection. VAS rentals are supplied with a UPS return label (*note that VAS rentals are only available within North America). Instructions are included for setting up the remote session which can take as little as 15 minutes but can take longer for 2024 models which require additional work to activate.

In the event that a future dealership visit removes the full matrix functionality this can be re-activated at no labor cost. The VAS interface is required for re-activating after a dealership visit that removes this functionality so it can be beneficial to purchase that interface for future use. If you choose to rent the VAS interface a deposit will be held until the interface is returned within 15 days of departure to your location. Once the interface is returned the deposit will be voided.

2024 models can have their matrix high beams activated. It does take a tiny bit longer during the remote process because of the unlocking procedure for modules, but the end result is the same and you get the really useful matrix functionality. My favorite feature of the S5 Sportback project here are the full matrix high beams.

A. No, only a $300 deposit is being taken on checkout and held for the VAS interface rental. When the VAS interface is returned after your rental the $300 deposit is voided completely.

Hopefully that clears up any questions on the rental deposit.

Genuinely worth it! One of my favorite parts of driving our S5 Sportback at night are the matrix headlights. Flip on the matrix high beams and just drive, city, rural, anywhere and never have to flip the high beams on and off or lose full high beam visibility when a car passes or a car is in front of the S5.

There are no specific add-on options for the 8Y which is maybe what you are looking at, but the base product works for the 8Y that has matrix headlights factory fitted.

Fitment: '19+ North American Matrix LED Equipped Models (excl. Q4)

Audi is moving to a stricter security protocol which some of you have already run into this while trying to code simple things on your 2024 models. Due to this stricter protocol we have been preparing so that the activation service and other remote procedures are never interrupted.

We have moved away from the venerable, tried and true VAS5054A interface to the more advanced DoIP capable VAS6154A interface. These new VAS6154A interfaces will make activations faster plus after quite a bit of testing and sorting all of these interfaces that come with your order from Europrice will be fully updated to handle the newest SFD2 security protocols which are coming soon.

This means new activations and any re-activations for current customers will occur without skipping a beat when the newest security protocols are put into place, plus shorter activation times!

Since the number of models and model specific options has grown a fair amount each group will now have their own dedicated page for information regarding matrix activation. This will hopefully reduce any confusion as to what options, if any, apply to each model.

As an added benefit for the 8Y models the pricing has also been brought down from $699 to $499 since this activation is not as labor intensive as other larger chassis models that have added options!

Is the lack of this feature (the feature being locked) on my stock 2022 8Y RS3 the reason why my automatic high beams don't do anything? I flick the stalk forward to enable auto high beam but that never does turn them on at all. Even in the middle of the night on a empty dark street - I always thought that there's something wrong with my car.

If you have the headlight switch to Auto and set the high beams to auto you should have standard High Beam Assist (HBA) which will turn the high beams fully on and off when you approach a vehicle or one approaches you, etc.

You will very obviously see the matrix functionality starting up when you hit the threshold speed and then you will see it do it's magic. You just need to set the headlight switch to Auto and then engage the auto high beams with your stalk.

Re-Activation - In the event that a dealership wipes the activation(s) during a service or repair free re-activation is available for as long as the customer owns the vehicle.

Can this all still be done with the old version of that VAS tool or the new one would be required?

For the very near term the VAS5054A can still be used, BUT that eventually will stop working and it's also a slower interface for these activations. If you purchased a VAS5054A and needed re-activation in a few months or a year or more it wouldn't work. So it's best to go with the VAS6154A if you planned to purchase the interface.

There are a bevy of VAS interfaces out there. Some of them require third party drivers and will not work at all with this activation. Some are older, like the VAS5054A, which work for now but won't in the future. The VAS6154A rented and sold here is the current standard for having these types of activations done.

The matrix activation will not make the high beams brighter, but definitely more effective. You pop the matrix high beams on and just drive worry free about being flashed or the whole high beam shutting off when you really could use the added lighting. Definitely one of my favorite mods as my eyesight starts to fade with age.

One added note, this product does NOT require OBD11 or any other interface other than the supplied VAS6154A to perform the activation. This has been asked from time to time as well.

Just rent or purchase the VAS6154A, setup your appointment, pop the hood on the car, plug in the interface to the car and laptop, turn power on, sit back, relax and enjoy a cold beverage while the work is done for you.

Can't comment on interfaces from other suppliers. Some of the VAS6154A look identical to those sold/rented here and they do not work properly. The VNCI might work, but again it's not worth the risk IMHO.

You can rent a known good VAS6154A here for zero dollars. The $300 associated with the rental is just an authorization that is held until you return the interface, never charged. The return shipping label is included at no cost.

In the event that you ever needed to have the re-activation done the VAS6154A rental is $35 plus shipping. So it would take an awful lot of rentals to add up to the cost of even a lower priced interface and then you are taking a gamble on that alone if you find the interface purchased doesn't work.

Always worth asking.

In over 1000+ activations across all the models that have matrix lights in North America there's been zero reports from customers about a warranty issue so far. YMMV, but many customers report that even after recall work and larger electronic repairs that the activation isn't wiped or even been noticed.

This is using genuine data and systems to enable the matrix functionality so it's not a hack or third party type of activation. The matrix headlights are enabled do what they were designed and built to do as well, so it's not like any part of the car is doing anything beyond what it was original built to do.

Unlocking this with Alex is an awesome feature. My RS3 is the third one I’ve done (A4 Allroad and A8L) and I really enjoy seeing what a difference the matrix LED’s being unlocked make. Personally, I love them. All 3 of mine have been to the dealer multiple times for service work…..and never had an issue with the unlock. My advice is to do it….you wont be sorry.

They are awesome. So much nicer to be able to see down the road even when behind someone. No one flashing their lights at me either, but they are working great.

Only thing I had to do the first time driving the car was take the lights off of auto and then back on, before that the normal US high beam on/off was still activating. Only had to do it once and they have been good ever since.

Definitely a mod all of the US folks should do.

Definitely a mod that at first may not be that useful or needed, but once you drive a car with full matrix high beams you'll never want standard high, or even low, beams again.

The matrix activation is for the high beams and replaces the HBA (High Beam Assist) which shuts your whole high beam on/off when cars come towards you or are in front of you, etc.

The headlight switch behavior will not change, nor will low beam operation, BUT you don't need to really ever just use low beams ever again. For matrix activated cars, set headlight switch to Auto and then high beams to Auto and drive off.

The matrix functionality will activate at speed. You will see the matrix high beams activate visibly in front of you as the LED segments light up to product the full high beam. As cars approach or you approach cars only where the car is will dim so the entire other area has a constant high beam. Just leave the high beams on and they stay on everywhere in front of you except the small area where you could blind or annoy someone with your high beams.

I'd suggest checking the video out to get a better idea of what the matrix functionality does:



It really makes driving at night so much nicer and easier. No flipping high beams on and off (old habits die hard) and having essentially the whole high beam on all the time while driving but not blinding people is a game changer.

Another happy customer!!! VAS arrived on Friday and I made contact via Whatsapp as required. Was after 5 PM EST and wasn't expecting to do the work until this week. Nope, all completed Friday. Waited until about 8 PM and took the car out on the back roads. Was immediately impressed! Matrix dynamic lighting is too cool! Had 1 guy flash me but otherwise zero issues. Very easy to see the lighting doing its magic too. We're moving in the darker, colder months and this is pure gold. Thanks for all your help. VAS return shipped this morning as instructed.

I had a similar experience to Fixeroh as well. The matrix lighting is amazing to watch as it adapts to conditions and other cars. Looking forward to more dark mornings to test it out! VAS was sent back yesterday afternoon. Thanks!
