Hey guys - I bought an immaculate 2016 Audi A3 FWD with the 1.8 turbo engine. Bought from a buddy who took great care of the car. Had a bad run of luck. He is not a car guy. Said it stalled and shop claims "needs motor". I bought cheap and rolled the dice. Turns out it dropped a valve. Blew a hole in the piston. Tons of damage/metal shards. Cylinder walls are beat up. I wanted to rebuild but im leaning towards doing a motor swap. Car only has 81k miles.
IF I buy a used motor does anyone have any advice? I was thinking get a used motor with similar miles. Since it will already be out of the car I might remove the head and have everything inspected/carbon cleaned. Is this a bad idea? Should I also put a new timing chain/system in the car. I have never swapped a used motor and want to know what items I should replace while the engine is on a stand.
Thanks in advance!
