    Luke's B9.5 RS4 Build Thread (a lot of pics)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So it has been a while (I believe more than 10 years) since my last post to the community as I sold my B7 a long long time ago, I did not spend too much time visiting the forum ever since. I guess it's time to share my story with the new B9.5 RS4. Owning an avant has always been on my mind since I sold my B7 A4 sedan as I believe Audi still makes the best looking wagon in the market, I started looking to get a new one in Feb 2023 and found one with very minimal options (no drc, with sport exhaust only). I pulled the trigger and got the paperwork done. Car arrived in March, 2023.

So let the modification begin for the B9.5 RS4. The first mod I did was the wheels. I ordered a set of custom spec forged ABT style wheels with relatively conservative spec 20X10 ET22 (I did put a 10mm spacers later on to make them look more flush). I also added a Karbel roof spoiler on the car at the same time.

BMC air filter + larger turbo inlet came to my next mod to my list.

After owning a BMW 3 series for couple years, I have been in love with the responsive handling that RWD car has. I decided to put more effort in improving the RS4 chassis + suspension to make it a better handling car. First thing I did to it was to upgrade the suspension to a set of KW V4 + H&R anti-sway bar kit. Second to that would be some 034 chassis upgrade such as front struct bar + driveshaft tunnel brace(forgot to take some pics of those upgrade). Besides the basic upgrades, I also replace all the control arms' rubber inserts to wishbone inserts to provide a more responsive handling. I also upgraded four control arms to titanium adjustable control arms.

Back to some exterior mods now, so I pulled the trigger for a set of Maxton kit.

So I have been always thinking about why Audi decided to delete the fog lights in the B9 generation, I talked to my sales rep and he told me that Audi put the fog lights into the headlights already. However, I am still digging the yellow fog light JDM style look, I removed the front bumper and found out that the ACC sensor section was only a plastic cover for those without the ACC option. After speaking with the shop tech, I decided to order the PIAA yellow fog and hoped that they will fit on the bumper. THANK GOD, I did make them to fit on the front bumper without any issues.

    Luke's B9.5 RS4 Build Thread (a lot of pics)

After owning the car for about 6 mons, I felt the rear was still a little bit sloppy after all the handling mods, so I went ahead and ordered more chassis upgrades, 034 Rear subframe mount + rear diff mounts + JXB driveshaft mount. The car felt more solid during cornering after the upgrades. I also felt that the acceleration was more responsive when I stepped on the throttle. However, I didn't feel much of an upgrade on the driveshaft inserts.

So my Christmas gift arrived early this year, here we come with the new wheels I had ordered 6 mons ago!!!Definitely the nicest wheels and most expensive wheels I have ever owned. Couldn't wait to put those on when I first received them. Wheel specs - 20x9.5 Et8 not the ordinary BBS recommended spec for this car. That's why it took me so long to get them.

Finally have time to put these bad boys on the car. Really like how it came out with that sporty looking, but I think I still need to do some camber adjustment on the car to make it to perfection.

After almost 20k kms of mileage, the oem tires started fading out so I decided to replace them with some beefy sport tires which gives better road feedback, better braking and handling. Last not not least, looooooooks wayyyyyyyy better.

To conclude this thread, I've also include a mod list for the car.

Love it. I thought the same for fogs. Do you have a link or the PIAA part number for the fogs you used?

I always thought those fog light areas were sensors but I don't have ACC. I wanted to do this fog light conversion years ago when I got my S4.

Hoping the opening is the same size on the US spec S4.

If you beat me to it please post up your findings. I’ve had the same want for awhile.

Glad someone finally took this on.

Thanks! I am still working around with the front and rear camber setting as the rear did rub a bit. I'll post some good quality photoshoot pics when i done working with the alignment adjustment.

Thanks thanks...car is fun to drive with all those upgrades. I was gonna go with a BMW F81 M3 but this thing is priced super high in China, like doubling the price of a b9.5 RS4.

Yes they are the same size...the piaa fog light is about 90mm which is about 3.5 inches the fog light cover will cover the outer brazel and small amount of the fog light but shoudlnt be the problem. its the same size as my rs4 front acc covers

Those are some nice quality wallpaper spec photos! Guessing you have a different set of wheels/tires for the track?

This is a tuned S4 Wagon, almost RS4 specs on the Nurburgring w/ Mischa:

That is one great looking Avant!!!

Really intrigued by the PIAA fog lights...very clever idea!
Do you mind providing a link to the brackets you used? I searched Ebay, Amazon, etc. with not much luck.

I'm also curious if you have a switch installed in the car that you use to turn them on/off?

Would be really slick if somehow you could insert the old fog light button into the "blank" button slot in the image below...seems like a perfect fit.

The fog light kit came with a physical switch that I mounted it inside the side cabin at the driver side under the headlight switch unit....I didn't think about wiring it to the light switch unit as I was afraid that I would run into some coding issues...

some updates on the car here...just put a Brembo Pista FF6 BBK with 380mm rotor on the car pairing with a set of Endless CCRG brake pads. Braking power has a significant improve from the Brembo bbk.
